x2
thats another reason why i got my 06, im 6'4" and i can push the seat all the way back and not bother someone sitting in the back. my knees are not up by the stearing wheel and i don't have to bend my head down to get in and out of it.

the X2 looks like some german WWII military vehicle or something to me. esp, when its on steelies with no covers.

it has its own charm, but its not an Xb.. the b is for box.. and its not a box anymore. I agree they should have called it something else.

or you could call it a TB for toyota box,its still the boxiest thing toyota has out now, or the union of a TC and xB.

Chad, if you would have read my whole message you would have seen I prefaced it with saying I wasn't trying to bring up the old "us vs them" thing. I agree with you that some 1st gen owners put down the 2nd gens. I can't help what others do. I was simply trying to state that in my opinion, newer and bigger doesn't always mean better. It's merely a subjective thing. If you took offense by my statements, it wasn't my intent. I thought we were here because we enjoy our cars and talking with like-minded people.

In reference to some statements that were made by others of you, I couldn't agree more. The design of the 1st gen is amazing. I've had many skeptical people sit and/or ride in our xB's and they were all amazed at the room and performance.

One of my best friends is 6'5"and it's the only vehicle he's ever been able to sit in completely upright and feel comfortable. On the other end of the spectrum, my 5'1" wife feels completely at home in hers and everything is positioned correctly. I don't know of too many other vehicles out there that are as versatile. Yes, older people buy xB's too. My parents and in-laws enjoy riding with us because of the ease of entry and exit these cars afford.

I actually felt a little claustrophobic in the newer model. Maybe here is the reason why, directly from Scion sales brochures...
1st generation: headroom F/R 46.1/45.7, legroom F/R 45.3/38.0, passenger volume 90.1 cubic feet, cargo volume 21.2 cubic feet.

2nd generation: headroom F/R 40/41.2, legroom F/R 40.7/38.0, passenger volume 100.8 cubic feet, cargo volume 21.7 cubic feet.

Just passing on some facts....

I had an 06 xb and loved it, loved the room, the gas mileage, how unique it was. I did however, have some complaints, like lack of power, somewhat noisy (and I mean road nosie, not engine noise), and it kinda had this "tin can" feel. When I rode in my girls TC I couldnt believe how much more solid it fealt. At first, I was glad I got one of the last 1st gen xbs, when I first saw the new one, although I did like how the new one looked, it just wasnt the same. Of course as time went by I thought more about things and ended up trading in my 1st gen for a 2nd gen and I have no regrets. Im not short per say, Im 6'1", and I actually find the xb2 more comfortable. I love the added features and the more solid feel but the biggest thing for me was more power and four wheel disc brakes. While its no sports car, I just have more options now than I did with the 1st gen. If I ever decide I want to add a turbo I can actually get some power out of the 2.4 unlike the 1.5, where it would just make it comparable to stock compact cars. I dont want a gas guzzler, but at the same time, I dont want a low hp or hybrid car, so in the end I opted for something in between. As far as it lookin the same as other cars, I think thats kinda stupid. The biggest comparisons Ive seen on here is a PT Cruiser or HHR, which is a retro styled car, so that makes no sense to me, and a Element??? Are you kidding? They look nothing alike. They arent even the same class of vehicle.

i don't think they look like the element eather.
see this is how people should be talking, you didn't go out of you way to insult anyone.
some people just take all this so personal.

i look at it this way, the xb1 is its own vehicle and the xb2 is its own vehicle, i had a 98 new beetle before my xb2 and i get just as many looks in my xb2 as i did in my bug. In fact in every hotel i stay at i walk out to people looking at it making positive comments, i would also have to agree I have never heard anyone publicly say they liked the xb1 all negative comments, but maybe i just havent been in the right place at the right time. My family is full of motor heads. my dad recently had a 99 corvette and a 02 corvette. i have drivin muscle cars and i have driven slow cars. The xb2 seemed to me the most economical decision i am not overly tall im 5' 10" tall the xb2 to me is alot better for traveling! It is road noise quieter has a tighter feel and is a blast to drive. Im not saying the xb1 isnt but the xb2 hugs the road better! I am a traveling photographer, With all the weight of my equipment i do not think the xb1 would have been much fun to drive. As far as the xb2 looking like all these other cars, um no! O by the way toyota has keept the name with diff generations for a really long time such as the corolla, celica, tacoma, supra, camry, land cruiser. and im sure there are more that i cant think of right off the top of my head. I have also noticed that alot of people do not seem to know what the xb1 is they just call it the scion box. I realize that they are american vehicles but look at the corvette, mustang, f series, viper, etc they have all had numerous generations same name. Maybe they should have come up with a new name but in a way it still has the same concept so.... Plus im not paying 14,000 for a 2005 xb1 with 25,000 miles on it when i can get the 08 xb2 for 17,720. Just doesnt make sense to me......

I'm soooo tired of this same old story from xB2 owners. Why do they keep thinking that it is them that we xB owners hate???
There is no such thing as an xB1. It is simply an xB. The xB2 is the only one that needs a number here.
I hate Scion for lying to us and for naming the replacement an xB, get it?
My only complaint about xB2 owners is how they continue to try and use our nicknames. Sorry but xB2's are not toasters and boxes. Not by any stretch of the imagination. The only thing we have in common with you guys is that we all own Scions.
Enjoy your cars and we will continue to enjoy the krap out of our suppossed inferior boxes.
PS now that the xB2 grew so large it IS closer to being an Element than you want to admit.

Overheard in a Scion xB Gen 2 discussion... :

"You know... We introduced an economy car, the xB, which turned out to be a great hit because of it's excellent gas mileage in this day and age of $3+ per gallon of gas...

You know how we can become an even better hit and sell more cars? Re-design our hit and have it get worse gas mileage!!!!"

okay, i am just kidding... but seriously... someone must have been thinking this...

i remember reading somewhere that the biggest compaint about the xb1 was not powerful enough and not big enough, so thats what they did, plus gave it alot of nice features. If they had made it bigger and kept the same motor it would have been crazy slow

I guess I'm confused.
Two points....
1. Considering that the xB is still a relatively new vehicle, were there really owners that had buyer's remorse after getting an 04-06?
We knew from the test drive how quick it was (or wasn't) and we knew how much room it had. Why would someone buy something that didn't fit their needs?

2. Considering the time it takes to design, approve and produce a new vehicle, the 2nd generation xB had to have been in the works about the time the 04's hit the market. So Toyota planned on the next gen would being larger before many people even had an original. Am I right?

Whens the last time you saw a box with rounded corners?

The xb2 looks like every other 2008 SUV on the road

the xB wasn't ment to be fast or big!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my question is: who was the complaints comeing from.
from people that test drove and never got one, the average joe on the street.

i never complained, i test drove 4 (2 M and 2 A) back in 04.
i knew just what i was getting and i loved it.
let say i hade designed the scion xB and i asked a room full of people for feedback:
someone (a mini van owner) said "its too small"
or someone elts (a supra owner) "its not fast enough"
i would have said "sorry, this car is not for you"
why would you make a car for a taget croud and then twist it to try and acomodate everyone elts.

go to porsha and tell them that you cant fit your 2 kids in the 911 and see what they say .

Looks like these xB2 owners just don't want to "get it". What a waste.
The only xB owners complaining about xBs are the ones that didn't do their research before buying one. The rest of us that have an xB are VERY happy with zero complaints. Period!!!

hang in there partner...you'll come to grips with it not being a box someday. i second the motion of it looking like every other small low to the ground "SUV" on the road. there is nothing unique to it. this is why it is an XB2 and not an XB any longer.

see the thing i think most of the xB2 owners don't get is:
we have nothing against "them" as a person.
we just don't like there cars.

but hay i got a good resolve:
you could go here www.Gen2xB.com
its for xb2 owners ONLY, so that means you will not have to put up with all of us xB1 owners cring all the time.

new SOP every time an xB2 owner talks tresh tell him were to go, www.Gen2xB.com
