This also happened to me few times. I agree that between the headlights being located quite high up and a stiff and bouncy ride, other drivers might think that we either have hi-beams on, or that we're flashing them.
My ride is stock and I haven't touched headlight adjustement (yet). I think that the factory headlight adjustment is a bit high anyways. While it is great for us, it annoys other drivers. I can see that my headlihgts shine quite far when I drive on a dark even road. Then when I hit some bumps the headlight beams shoot right up.
One of these days I might lower them a bit.

If you look through the first page of posts in this thread you should see a message explaining how to turn the plastic "crown gear" like wheel to adjust the headlights. You don't bend anything.
Just like most cars, each headlight has 2 of those screw-wheels. One for horizontal, the other for vertical adjustment.

And yes - the low beams do seem a bit high. I was driving last night on a rural road and didn't even bother turning my high beams on because I could see plenty far in front of me as it was. And I did get flashed by someone (too late to flash 'em back - drat!).
Ok, there is on screw on the upper edge by the mounting tab on the fender. And there is one screw on the lower edge of the headlight near the core support. I took picutres, but I cant remember how the hell to post them.

Using a big phillips screwdriver the adjustment crown gear meshes with the phillips head as if they are teeth and make it easy to turn. Or you can use a 1/4 inch nut driver on the back side of the crown gear adjuster. Usually a complete turn makes a pretty big adjustment but you could be off by 2 or three turns. Get the low beams shining low enough so you can see the end of the spot they make on the road clearly - if it fades into the distance then they are too high. The headlights are high off the road so they tend to shine into cars easier - I make the left one a little lower than the right one so I don't shine into on-coming cars. The high beams light up tree tops and are are crazy high with not enough light on the road - can't do much about that however. These beams are pretty intense due to the very clear glass lens. I had to raise mine because I could only see about 75 feet ahead of me.
