How much MPG do you get in your XB?
I voted for 30 mpg. I've gotten as low as 28 city (once) and as high as 35 highway (once), but almost always get 30 around town in mixed driving. My friends quite laughing when gas hit $3/gallon, and now they let me do the driving at lunchtime more often!
26-28 and always on the gas. 17's but they are lighter than stock and my mpg didn't really change when i ran 2 of the stock wheels in the front for a couple tankfuls when I was getting tires replaced.
The biggest factor is speed. No bolt-on is going to save you enough money to pay for itself, IMO, altho its a good excuse if you need one for an I/H/E...

I get 30 pretty much every tank, 50 highway/50 urban, but as I consider Interstate speed limits to be more of a guidance for people who are in need of guidance, I know that 34 is achievable if you show general good behaviour.
i average 28 miles/gallon with 17" wheels. but what i don't understand is that i drive mostly highway miles and i do not speed or accelerate hard yet i dont even get the epa for CITY driving
well, today marks my 8th tank. I've only had it 34 days, but I think it's safe to say the honeymoon isn't _quite_ over yet. I've had one 'miracle' tank, number 2, coming in at 36, and one really doggish tank at 28. I average 32.
I have had 18s on for the last three tanks, and the first tank after the rims was the 28. I started really watching my rpms and jackrabbits, and I am positive that i can still get good milage if I keep it to 60 on the hwy.
I also suspect temperature has a lot to do with my milage. I live in colorado, and the one week I pulled the miracle tank, it was fairly chilly here. I guess I am a little surprised at that, becasue I was under the impression that more fuel is consumed at lower temps...

It seems with the high cost of gasoline these days that mpg forums have became hot. This is the reason that I dug this interesting, yet, dead post up out of its grave.
I have an rs 3.0 with now 700 miles on the odo. It is an auto, I drive 50/50 and I am yet to abuse it. I live in St.Louis and the weather is fluctuating now. Since ownership temps have been in the 60-90 range.
First tank = 24.5 mpg
Second tank = 26.5 mpg
Third tank = 26.5 mph
All this has been on 87 octane.
Then I start reading these post......
I checked my plugs. They were NKG's gapped at .027 from the factory and they smelled of gas. I read that the optimal setting for these plugs is around .032. I also know that there are many other plugs that call for 0.44.
I decided to say screw it and experiment a bit, in a non professional manner, as I have changed two variables at once-----
I pulled out my plugs, took about 3 minutes, and gapped them all at .036. I wanted to fall somewhere in the middle of what I hear. I made a pretty big change as you all see. I also filled up my tank with 93 octane from ammaco. I will post my mpg on my next tank here in a couple of days fyi.
It may be and probably is placebo, but my xb seems to be running a little better with the larger gap. It is more responsive and peppier when I touch the gas. You know when you fill it up it goes a little over full on the guage? Well I drove 40 miles highway around 75 mph and I have just reached a full tank according to the guage. I have a funny feeling that this will be my best tank to date.
Who knows? Whatever it will be I will honestly share my data with all of you.
If it is better, is it the higher octane gas, the plug gapping, or the fact that my car's engine is breaking in?
We will never know the facts---this isnt science---Well it is, but not really......
What we will know my is what my 4th tank pulls as we all will be curious.
Untill 260 more miles-----I am out. Peace and all have a good night!
