Default I just bought a XB.....

Hi, everyone. I've been reading posts here for a month but this is the first time I post. So, some body rear ended my civic on mid March and I bought a 05 xb with 55k on mid May from some Vietnamese guys found on craiglist who said the car has never been into any accident. However, after buying the car, I found the A/C not working and the autoshops said that my car had an accident before on the head and the A/C compressor is bent. So, I let the guys fixed it and here is my car.

After some cheap mods

I'm still waitting for my visors, grill, eyelids, and my rear guard to arrive, but anyways, now here is my question, from driving my car for almost a month, i found out that the mpg of my car is only about 24-26 (local+highway) which is like exactly the same as my 97 civic with exhaust, cold air intake, header, cat, fixed up. is anyone else having the same problem and know what I can do to improve my mpg?

Your mpg doesn't seem right if your engine is stock. You should be getting low 30's or high 20's. Also the way you drive is very critical. If you drive with a heavy foot, then 24-26 mpg should be right i guess.

I'm sorry I cant be much more help...because I am not one of them

Congrats and welcome!

Check your tire pressure too. Slightly better mileage if you run higher psi. Also, difference between easy throttle and leadfoot is BIG! Go real easy and you should get 25 city/30+ hwy with stock sized tires/rims.

thank you guys for helping. I don't step on my gas hard and I just had new tires on my cars. I was thinking if damage on the head done from the previous guy would affect the mpg. Hate to compare the mpg of my xb with a 12 years old honda that my brother has fixed up. I bet a stock 97 civic would do better mpg than my xb.

I've got quite a bit of extra weight between the wheels and the ~120 square feet of sound deadener. I drive my b like a sunday driver and average above 34. When I'm ballin on the highway like a bat from the other side, I hit usually around 26-27.

Light on the gas gets me a consistent 46.5 mpg (avg over the past 1500 miles).

welcome.

do you have any TRD stuff on your car?
if not, get rid of that badge on your lift gate, nobody likes a poser. + almost anything is beter than TRD and not as expencive.

my MPG jumps around so much i stopped keeping track of it.
your should change your spark plugs, our sevice manuel calls for new spark plugs every 30k.
go with NGK irideum IX. you will get better MPG and you will not have to change them as often.

I got 27-28mpg hway in the xB; I get 24-25mpg hway in the r32. The xB was never that great on the hway for me (mpg, handling, comfort, etc) although city driving is where I thought the xB was the best of any of my cars.

I get around 28 when I mash, but I rarely do that. I drive like a grandma a lot and get 33+ consistently with a mix of highway and local. Check your plugs, add some fuel injector cleaner, check your tire pressure, and probably change your driving habits.

That being said, that giant toyota emblem in the window is cheesy as hell and the sparkly one in the back is weird. Welcome to the family, but don't rice your box man.

ya, i think i'll just get my spark plugs changed and see what else I can do. I'll go for the NGK one, thanks to your suggestion.

I do have trd springs and sway bar but no, the purpose of putting it on was because the yellow devil sticker itself was weird and my brother and I both agreed it would look better this way.

yes, i am thinking of getting rid of the toyota emblem on the back. I do love the giant toyota emblem but was too afraid that would be stolen if I put it outside since it was the biggest emblem I could ever found and I couldn't even find one more for my girlfriend.
