Default Little blue light thing next to hood release

What is it for? There's a button on the back of it that does nothing. Does anyone else have this?
Also, found out that you can't just go to Wal-Mart to make a spare key as it sets the alarm off haha.

Isn't the blue light the factory alarm system?

1st Gen factory alarm light is red and installed right above the ashtray. It has a microphone for the glass breakage sensor so thats is the only place its installed.
I have never seen a blue light by the hood release?? May be an aftermarket alarm.

Well I have an 06.5 xb and I have the factory alarm and there is a blue light next to the hood release. When the alarm is set, it blinks blue. Not saying that there isn't a red led one. I seen that one and maybe its for the earlier year.

I've got an 04 and an 06 xB and there is no blue light. The 04 has an aftermarket alarm and the 06 has a factory alarm, but I did a self install. It has a red light that blinks and mounts above the ash tray. However, I won the alarm at a show so it may be for the 04-05 originally. Wouldn't suprise me if Toyota changed another thing on the 06 for no apparent reason. I've noticed a lot of little differences, even the gas cap changed, really can't figure out why on that one.

I forgot to mention that mine is an 05
it might be an aftermarket alarm, but the guy I bought it off of didn't mention anything, and I don't have a special key fob
Maybe it's just a theft deterrent and doesn't do anything
(still searching for the usb cord btw)

Hmm I still don't know.. it might be an aftemarket alarm, but I still find it hard to believe. The dealership wouldn't sell me the xB unless they say I buy their "factory alarm" because i got it a little under sticker price. They took about 30 - and hour to install it.

Anyways I think I have the factory alarm features, like if I unlock the door and i don't get to it within 20 seconds, it auto lock itself. Also when there is a slight pressure hit, there will be a warning sound, and a hard pressure hit the alarm will go off. What do you guys think?

sounds like an aftermarket alarm to me... certainly not something Scion ever made.

it wouldnt be the first time i have seen a local Scion stealership using a mom & pop shop install an aftermarket alarm into a NEW Scion.

If the car locks itself, and chirps when knocked, yeah its an aftermarket alarm. If it blinks blue, it sounds like a Viper alarm.

holding the button on the back turns the light off
i don't know what it does but when I get my car back tomorrow i'll try the spare key with the light off
oh and it's wired into some dark grey module under the steering wheel which has a blue "knock sensor" or something like that zap strapped to it
weird
