Mileage
xBoxers,
I've been following a few threads that have to do with the xB's excellent mileage, so I thought it would be a good time to compare what my own little xBox has been doing, mileage-wise.
When I first got it, my '06 xB was getting right around 33 MPG, with my driving being mostly commuting and a couple of longer trips. The interesting thing was that for longer trips, the mileage was actually lower, with the worst being around 28 MPG on one drive up to northern MN and back. I guess the stick really does get a little worse mileage on long trips 'cause of the higher revs.
This spring I rechecked the mileage of my xB for three tankfuls of gas and I found that for those tankfuls, all of them commuting miles (I have a twenty-mile round-trip with almost all county roads and I go right around 50 mph most of the way there and back), the mileage is up to nearly 36 MPG, a quite pleasing change, and probably because of the engine being broken in and more miles at 50 mph.
The latest mileage I'm getting is now in the 45-50 MPG range! The really ODD thing is that most days I've been going FASTER on my way to and from work! Faster commutes and better mileage?!? Something doesn't add up here . . . .
WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON?????

Calculator broken??
Dunno but if 45+ is for real I would like to know how!! I get 26.5 in stop and go rush hour traffic 75% mixed with 45-75 MPH suburban driving 25%. I have fairly heavy 18" wheels and tires, a Heavy subwoofer amp enclosure with 2 10's and amps, I am also lowered 2 inches.

It's doeable if you plan your routes and drive for max economy. My best tank so far is 46mpg but that was with below freezing temps and studded tires on. I'm hoping to hit one tank this summer at as close to 50mpg as I can get. But I defintely won't be getting that all the time. On average driving normal I get 35+. Great to see someone else getting great mileage though.

MPG is optimum at cruising speeds of 50-60 MPH or so, then it begins to drop. If you're driving 75-80 like most cars on the interstate your gas mileage will be noticably lower than in-town driving.

Dang, it's april but my bike is still covered. Still snow and ice on the roads here! I'm jealous.
As far as calculating gas mileage, I do the same thing, write down odo and gallons used to fill up also monitor the scan guage which is usually within a few tenths of a gallon.
