Default More xB Road Trip Help Please :D

My first trip last week to NorCal was a success, and the box escaped without any damage to the front end and windshield at all...However I think the Scion gods were watching over me, and I just might have gotten lucky this time around...

So here's the thing...I'm heading up there again this weekend, and I saw on another thread that some guys (ScionDynasty in Miami I think) were putting what looked like cellophane (shrink wrap) on the nose of their xB's while taking a long drive to a car show in another town...

Being on a budget right now, I'd love to try this method out...If anyone has done this, or if you are one of the guys from Miami can you please post here and let me know what kind of wrap it is you use, does it stay on fairly well while driving, and about how much it costs (if it's not regular grocery store stuff) Also, is there any tape used to keep it wrapped around under the fenders/wheel wells??? I came across the thread with all of the pics of what I'm talking about last night, but I can't seem to find it using search now

Thanks!!! :D

I think this may be the post you were talking about:

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...ight=blue+tape

From the picture, it almost looks like that blue painter's masking tape. Something I have started using for a bunch of things and would maybe work for this too, is Glad Press and Seal wrap. Anyone try this stuff? Like regular plastic wrap, but it sticks wherever you press it down. I've been using to mask stuff for painting and for tracing over shapes that are hard to fashion freehand. Maybe I'll test it a little to and from work and see. I swear this stuff is going to be as valuable as duct tape...

Thanks so much for the quick reply, and the link too!!! Unfortunately thi sisn't the onme I'm talking about...The thread I saw had clear wrap, and it looked like the guy in the pic aplying it had a roll of what looked like clear packing tape in his hand...

Dunno if this helps, but it was in a thread pertaining to a Miami based meet at a dealership...I think the club was ScionDynasty or East Coast Scions....Man I'm having a hell of a time finding the pics!!! :D

I found the thread!!! Finally!!! :D

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...=19714&start=0

Can anyone explain to me how this trick works, and the best way to apply the wrap, what kind, where to get it if it's not a local supermarket thing, and is tape involved??? How about the cleanup afterward when I get to NorCal??? Most importantly, will it hold up on a six hour drive??? :D

Thanks Everyone!!!

Im not too sure about the cellophane, I guess you can use the wrap in the wherehouse's to wrap pallets. Its the tape Id be concerned about. If you went to costco you can get plenty of blue tape. I know the blue tape is paint friendly, I cant say the same for any other type of tape. Id just blue tape the front, its a tried and true method.

I'm willing to try the blue tape method too, but I'm concerned about the glue residue left over from the heat of the paint being driven in the sun???

I have to decide what I'm going to do fast too because I leave here in just over 24 hours from now :D

You dont have to worry about the glue on blue tape, its made to hold on well but not be hard to peal off. I know plenty of people that have made the trip with blue tape in the middle of summer and it comes off with ease with no residue.

|I used the blue painters tape on my xb on my way to LA and back. worked great and was easy to take off. I covered everything from the lip all the way to the corners of the fenders. Pretty much anything facing forwad from the hood down I covered. used about a roll and a half. drove to fresno then the mountains with the heat. I highley recommended it since the paint on the scion is a little on the thin side.

Thanks brother :D

Unfortunately I'm up here in NorCal without a box...My Lava freaking broke down on me on my way to the Scinergy meeting last night...CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT LUCK!!! *LMAO*

It's all good though...I got a rental paid for for the entire weekend with unlimited mileage so hey the way I see it, I saved my box 1,000 miles ;)

Thanks again for the tips...I'll be heading up here to NorCal often so as soon as I gewt the box back I'll be having to use that trick

Hey next time I'm up here I'll drop you a line bro, maybe we can get some of us ogether and hang or something...I'd love to check out a NorCal meet sometime
