My Girlfriend may be getting an xB
Look at a 2006 xB tonight with 17's, Lip Kit, upgraded tail lights, and side markers. It has 50 K and it is a manual tranny. The list price was $12,995 plus TTL which is the price 3 years ago brand new roughly. The manager said that is because of the wheels, which are nothing special. I told him that we both know that after market accessories do not add value and he had to agree. He said that he wanted to make a deal so he would sell it for $11,700. Once again I laughed. I told him I would have to research the vehicle and I would get back to him Wednesday. Well I looked up the book and it is worth $8000. Do you think it is resonable to negotiate for $8,000 plus TTL, $8,500 tops? Or is it really worth more?
What book are you looking at? Are you looking at the "trade in" values? (they are definitely the lowest), Even purchasing Private Party (not dealer), the book (kbb.com) goes from above 10K in excellant to 8K+ in fair. I did have to put in my zip code, but I can't see it making that big of a difference. If you use trade-in value, that is what the dealer possibly gave for the vehicle. He can't sell it for that and stay in business for long. I wouldn't sell my 04 (also has 50K miles) for even the dealers asking price. The BOXes are priceless, and to get one for around 10-12K doesn't seem bad at all. Hope you get it at whatever price works, but just get one. That would be my advice. Good luck with working it out.
I think my '06 was 15.3K or there about new.
Go in low! You can always bargain up, its hard as hell to bargain down! Go in way low and split the difference between his price. Shoot for your (8.5k target) figure. But I would guess that you will have to pay over 9k...JMHO. Hot cars, great resale value!
Economy AND sales figures are on your side! Cars are not flying off the lots right now, in case the dealer did not notice. Don't be anxious, don't be in a hurry. Walk out and give them time to think it over. They will call you back.
G/L!
You will love the box! FWIW, I would not sell mine for 8 or 9K!

bought my 06.5 with 11k miles in January of 2007 for $12,900.
do not give him $11,700 for one today with 50k miles. 2 years and 40k miles causes more depreciation than $1200.
i would offer $9000 and do not let him work it up over $10,500. if you have to walk out, do it. i walked out on a salesmen when buying my wife's Saturn and he called my bluff and let me go (i really wanted the car). Not even 5 minutes down the road he calls my cell phone and says he can do it.
they can go lower.

Well I went to the dealer tonight to negotiate a deal and they said $11,700 was the absolute lowest they would go. It was well outside my price range and I also find it hard to belive that they only marked up the price $1,200, so I walked out . Oh well...
Well, if its out of your $$ range, so be it!
There will be more. Be patient! And the dealer *may* call back. Then YOU have the upper hand! They don't make anything til its sold. If they paid too much, its their problem, not yours.
