Default My wife's close encounter with a deer.

A few nights ago my wife left the house in her yellow RS2 xB to pick up our son from wrestling practice. About 5 minutes after she left, I got a call at the house. It was her calling from her cell phone. She told me that she "kinda hit a deer". I was like, "what do you mean you kinda hit a deer?". She said that she was driving when she spotted a deer coming across the field at an angle toward her. She slowed down....and so did the deer. She came to a complete stop....and so did the deer. They were both just sitting there looking at each other. She blew the horn but it didn't move. So she started to drive very slowly. That's when the deer decided to jump right in front of the car and sort of kick the front bumper with it's hind legs as it ran off. Thankfully, it didn't even leave a mark. I asked my wife if it was a buck or a doe. She said, "It was tan".

We live in town, but the most direct way to get to our son's school is through a section of country roads & farm land that is infested with deer. It worries me everytime we travel that road. I wish I had an old '72 Plymouth beater just for that drive.

it was tan sounds like my wife. I live out in the boonies as well and it's rare to NOT see a deer when you go out somewhere. I haven't hit one yet but have had many close encounters. I almost hit one in my parents Tahoe a while back. Slammed the brakes and had the tail end spin out and I ended up sideways in the middle of the road. I was a novice driver at the time so that didn't help.

*Edit* now that I've been driving for a few years. I would have nailed the sucker...

The Tahoe would have won that fight. With an xB it would probably be a tie. In my xA, I'd loose.

i have heard in PA hitting a deer is considered "an act of god" and wont affect your insurance premiums. though idk how true that is. i was told to hit anything larger then a deer.

Hmmm...I don't know if that's true or not. I hope I never have to find out.

In Washington, they scoop up the deer, tan or not (lol), and serve them at the homeless shelters. So if you kill one, you can feel proud that you're doing your part in feeing the homeless.

Bum while eating his deer stew: "ouch my gums...oh it's just a chunk of Scion"

EWE..GROSS!! Here in PA if you shoot a deer during deer season and you would like to donate the meat to a homeless shelter, you can. But I'm pretty sure we don't feed them road kill!

I shot an 8 pointer about 2 weeks ago and donated it. One less deer out there to plow into I guess. I dont think they let you donate road kill in WI though.

Here in NJ .. they hand out about a dozen Road Kill Lisences. This allows those who hold that title to pick up road kill and eat it. They are handed out in Southern NJ .. where dear are plentiful.

I have run-ins with deer on a daily basis as i travel to work at 5AM every morning. The best thing to do is scan both sides of the road looking for the reflection of their eyes. Once you see that, they are blind. Thats why they have a tendancy to stop in the road when your headlights blind them. I have had a couple close calls, but luckily no hits yet. I know they are waiting till i re-paint my box this spring.
