Default Noise at idle

I just bought a used xB w/ 12500 miles on it. I'm new to the Scion scene and was wondering if anyone else has a "higher pitched" loose belt kinda noise when they are stopped at a red light. When I put the car in neutral, the noise goes away but once I put it in drive, it comes back. I turned off my AC so I know its not that.

Its hard to explain the noise.....almost sounds like a loose belt or a unlubricated fan....i did buy the extended 7/100,000 warranty. Is this something serious or is it something little they can fix....the noise is really annoying and gets old REALLY fast.

check the fuel line....sometimes it will just vibrate on the lower windshield sill...
give it a twist ans it should be good.

black rubber hose that says 'fuel line do not cut'...
next to the master brake cylinder.

...or it could actually be a 'slipping belt' squeal. My xB developed a squeal a year ago at about 900 miles and it was indeed a belt. Dealer adjusted and no odd noises since.

Since it's only at idle, though, it is likely not a belt.

Bottom line is it shouldn't make that noise, and the dealer can likely fix it easily - and free - if it isn't something you can spot.

Mine did it and I thought it was a loose belt but they weren't loose. I sprayed some belt dressing on both of them and the noise has been gone for at least 2K miles.
