take them the TSB tomas put up. Perhaps they don't know how to deal with it. Like I said though, don't go in with an "I know more than you" attitude. Just offer it as a suggestion and see if it helps. Explain that you found it online after doing some research and thought this might offer a solution!

Dude that sucks, I don't know what to tell you. I just dropped my box off at the dealership this morning to have the VVTI gear replaced, which is what they told me the error was. I'm currently in a Yaris S with 4,000 miles on it until they finish my car. I really hope they get it done today, I feel incomplete without my Xb.

This should not happen, but it does. One that is very simple to see/understand is the following TSB which should be a no question, no challenge changeout if the customer reports the problem, but being refused because the tech couldn't duplicate the problem. *sigh*
I've been in that same situation. Took the car in cuz the radio would change stations by itself but only on a really cold morning in winter for one time and would not do it the rest of the day. I explained the problem and of course the dealer acted stupid and gave the "Never heard of this problem before" statement even though I just got off the phone with someone who said to bring it in. Well I presented the tsb Tom posted here n got such an attitude. "Where did u get this from...Ur not suppose to have this, its for Toyota techs only....Most likely its a fake...This is untrue" and all the other bs. What a bunch of crap, all I wanted was to know if the tsb applied to my radio and if it did to fix it. I didn't get nasty when I asked him about this and was surprised when he got all ____ed off about it. That's y I do my own work when possible and I can't wait to finish my last 2 complimentry oil changes so I never have to go back.

If the dealer is really giving u a problem about takeing care of the vvt-i problem then make a call to corporate. Tell them how disgusted u are and file a complaint. Most likely they'll have you return to your dealer when someone from corporate is there and they'll look at it for you and will approve the repair. Once corporate approves it that's it, ur dealer has to make the repair. Best of luck to everyone.

Dropped my box off last night to have the P0012 checked out.

They just called and said that the code is a result of my ScanGuage and that it's retarding something or other. I kindly told them that there is a TSB out there (and that I had written the TSB number on the envelope) and would they be kind enough to doublecheck it.

Just curious - anybody else use the ScanGuage that got this code? Do y'all disconnect/remove the ScanGuage before you take the car in for service?

Just got the call.....they ordered the part and it's on backorder! Will call me when it's in.

Thanks for the TSB Tomas! Without it and these forums I'd probably be disconnecting the ScanGuage!

I don't know what code I threw--but they replaced my VVT-I controller at 30K miles. And as to the replacement of the cabin air filter--I am always getting an advertisement from my dealer that they will sell the filter for only $49! No mention of the labor envolved.

Toyota is already aware of this issue. This problem is covered under the 5/60 warranty and applies to P0012, p0013, P0014 codes.

Mine just started this too! I was wondering about the 5/60 warranty, was this the standard warranty???? I thought it was 3yr/36,000 miles. I am worried about the price of getting it done. do you have to have scion do he work???? Can you get the part elsewhere?

Default Thanks!

I've had the CEL off-on-off-on since I got my xB a couple of months ago. I tried a couple of things and cleared all but one of the codes--The dreaded P0012. This thread lead me to the TSB and my VIN was in the before-the-fix range. I called a dealer, told him about the code and the TSB. He basically blew me off on the phone and said it would be $100 to "diagnose the code." Well, I was stuck so I took it in--and I printed out the TSB (VVT-i actuator) and left it on the front seat. They just called to tell me that was what it was, the part will be here tomorrow, and it's covered under the power train warranty. I can't wait for my xB to be happy again. THANKS!!!

so i got the stupid P0012 code today. im assuming its the same problem you have all had so im not too worried about it but i do have one question. I am not the original owner so will this repair still be covered under the 5yr/60k mile powertrain warranty? it is an 05 with 44k miles on it and falls with in the vin range posted in the TSB. any comments would be appreciated!
