I had an MIL pop up on Monday but it went away. It popped up again tonight and I got a chance to test it, and it was the P0012.

I was wondering if there was a TSB for the 2AZ-FE for this same problem, as the TSB .pdf on page 1 of this thread only covers the 1NZ

Got the same code this morning. I have an ’06 xB I bought 2 months ago, now at 70k miles. Called the local Scion dealer, the lady on the Service dept phone said $83 just to plug in the gauge to ck, and “no recalls were ever issued” after I told her about a service bulletin I had just heard about here.

Even if mine falls under the VIN category (have to ck that next), am I screwed as the second owner?

I don't see why you'd have to pay to fix it. They are aware pf the problem and you might have to contact Scion corporate.

I called the local Scion dealer, talked to the Service Mgr. He seemed reasonable, and said he’d talk to Toyota to see what they could/would do. We both agreed “they take care of parts, I pay for labor” seemed fair.

He called me back yesterday & said they approved just that, and now to get the parts ordered and get in to see if that’s the problem. Later the scheduling person called to say she’d be calling me probably Thursday to get it in ASAP. The Mgr said labor should be ~$99 for the TSB work. I’m good with that, for a car w/ ~70k miles and no extra warranty.

So far so good. (It’s Beechmont Scion/Toyota in Cincinnati for reference.)

My warning lights only come on when I don't crank the gas cap on tight. Lots of clicks. Started coming on at about 90,000 miles.

Update: Fixed today for about $100 in labor. They got the part in, and covered it by warranty even with 72k miles, I covered the 1.2 hrs labor (according to the TSB, which was in my hand when I got there this morning.)

Took about a week to get scheduled in, but no problems otherwise. A happy xB again...

Good points, but it's instances like this (bad experiences with the service departments of dealerships), that customers often times do not easily forget. Then, when it comes to trade in the vehicle and/or buy a new vehicle the customer may hold past poor dealings against a dealership(service, parts, sales.. etc) in favor of going with a new dealership mainly because they don't want any grief and/or another bad experience.

That is one element automobile companies have a difficult time with. It's one thing to design/engineer a vehicle(make it safe, efficent, etc) , but when it comes down to the human element of then dealing with customers on a daily basis, and if their dealership personel are not up to the task(major task) of all the potential possible pitfalls of things that could go wrong (Murphys law) with customers vehicles(warrenties ,etc) , then thats where dealerships can take a serious hit (if enough word of mouth gets around, the dealership will go out of business .... however the company most likely will not).

Since purchasing 2 xb's in the past couple of months I've already got into a verbal altercation with the dealership's service director over an issue on a week old car he didn't feel was his problem, fortunately the customer service dept. told him otherwise. Having info like this makes it much easier for people to go into service departments and get the service the deserve instead of getting the runaround.

Just joined forum after purchasing a used XA with under 60K Light came on. You guys been a great help!

I did notice that if I "load" my engine (driving slow in 5th gear and trying to accelerate without downshifting) I can actually induce the P0012 code.

My car runs great, with or without light
