Default Power Steering comes and goes

no squealing. new belt. power steering was marginal to non existant in the fall then came back in the winter and worked great without my doing anything. now its on the margins again. I have two 2006 xBs and the second one is starting to exhibit the same problem and a third one I was looking at to buy has the same problem.

is this a known thing. pump replacement, rack. i haven't experienced this with any other rigs and now I got 3 2006 xbs all displaying the symptom at about the same age.

thanks,

brian

Was it really hard to steer when the power was "non-existent"?
If it was winter and you had water in the system and it was freezing... perhaps
