Default Really have to remove muffler???

Hi Guys,
My hubby got me a scion exhaust tip for my xB for my birthday. (Don't tease... he's smart enough not to usually buy me such a gift for my bday, but I asked for it.) My son was going to put it on for me and came back saying he couldn't because he had to remove the muffler to do it. I found this rather ridicules, but he said it was in the directions. Is this really the ONLY way to put the OEM exhaust tip on? If so, does that mean the only way to do it is to take it to a shop? Seems like a racket if so.

thanks

maybe he mis-read the directions...did you read the directions yourself to confirm his understanding?

from what people post, it is NOT NECESSARY to remove the entire muffler assembly...

The instructions do say to remove the muffler but you don't have to. Just jack up the rear end to give you more clearance.

Just use a hammer to bang the old exhaust tip off. Look at how it's attached and you'll see that it's not hard.

NO the muffler doesn't have to be removed. If he has no experience doing this I would recomend having someone do it that knows what they are doing. It's very easy to scratch the paint on the rear lip if done wrong. To remove the stock tip, there are a couple tabs that need to be bent away from the pipe. Then you can gently tap the tip off. The new one should be the kind that has 3 mounting jaws that move toward the center of the tip and clamp down on the pipe. Place tip where desired and tighten the 3 clamps evenly while checking that it is straight. There should be no movement once it is tight and check it after driving around for awhile and retighten if nessasary.
