Question Rear speaker woes

Hi there! First time poster here. I just bought a used 2005 toaster with what I think is a 2008 4runner radio in it. Well, I didn't get any service history (as the guy who I bought it from did all the work himself), and only when I got it home did I realize that the rear speakers don't work at all, as in I turned the fader to R7 and the speakers went completely quiet. might this be because of the radio? will an aftermarket or used OEM radio fix the issue? I don't think the speakers are blown because I think there would still be at least some sound coming out of them in that case. Probably going to upgrade the speakers and add a sub at some point, but I want to eliminate faulty wiring as the cause of this issue. any ideas?

For those who are wondering, I did see the other post on this topic- nothing seemed to come out of it though, so I thought I'd make another post.

I'm guessing they didn't bother hooking up the rear speakers. If they were blown you would hear them and know that they were blown. Maybe they are and that is why they didn't hook em up?
