i got the Clifford Matrix 50.5X remote start on mine...if you are planning on installing it yourself i would buy it off ebay, got mine brand new for $250, its a $600 alarm anywhere else...

If you dont plan on installing it yourself, call your local shops and ask them if they install alarms not bought from them, some do but a lot dont...and ask them what brands they install

if you have a 5 speed i would recommend magnetic switches on the shift linkages so it doesnt start while in gear, that could turn out really bad really quick...

Ooooookay... are you looking for a remote start system ONLY; or a complete alarm?

I have a Viper (5950012346whatever) security system/ remote start kit on my 06 xB and it works wonders. It starts and responds to commands from up to a mile away. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to put this to the test in the best areas.

There are some "remote start only" kits out there that you could probably get your hands on; but I would recommend (depending on funds) getting the entire alarm/ remote start kit. The only problem I've experienced with this alarm, is that when my mom mistakenly presses the unlock button on the factory key-less entry remote, she trips my after-market alarm.

I have yet, however to have any problems with the remote start thus far. It's great for the winter/ summer if you leave the climate control switches turned on when you exit your vehicle.

My kit was $500 bought and installed. A bit pricey; but I had a security install done. That means all of the alarm components are behind the dash and they run along the stock system wires, rather than under the hood or steering wheel col.

You COULD look on Ebay and various other online merchants for a remote start kit only; but I know nothing about where you would get it installed as I am a Fl resident and have never visited AZ. I'm sure a local body shop would be able to install it though. Just make sure if you do get something, that it has an engine kill if the key is not inserted into the ignition. The Viper alarm system comes with this feature.

Hope this helps; I know it's a lot...

Viper's 1 mile system is the Viper SST (5900)... I have it and love it.

Thanks there buddy... I couldn't remember the model number to save my life (I'm sure you didn't have a hard time figuring this out). I have the exact same one and I'd have to admit, it does work well. I just would like to know where the hell the desert field they tested the 1 mile radius is located. I seem to be too far deep into the city to get such clarity.

Well, the 1 mile is tested on a flat line of sight strip.

The range is amazing though, its easily more than double the range of the Viper VX590 that I had before the 5900.

Keep in mind that anything, power wire, cement in buildings, trees, everything that can block a RF signal will reduce the range. Bottom line though is that the Viper 5900 is the unit on the market with the farthest actual and tested range. Others claim they do a mile, but side by side with my Viper 5900 the others always fail. Not to mention DEI's lifetime warranty on their brains...

I think the Clifford, Viper, and Python are all DEI products. You can't go wrong with these brands. I have the Viper xv or vx 791 and am more than happy with it! It doesn't have too good of range (like the ones mentioned above), but I am happy with it and I never wished I could start my car that far away! It was a complete alarm/remote start system. I paid $500 installed for mine. I think these all have a turbo timer and some other features as well, but I never had a need for the extra gadgets. There are two extra auxilary switches that you could run puddle lights and stuff too, but I never looked into those goodies.

Yep, Viper, Python, Clifford, all DEI products, they're basicly the same, just look different.

They have all sorts of features, power the door locks, remote start, you can even do things like when the car is running and keys in the ignition you can press the * button two times and it will allow you to take your keys out and keep your car running, great for running into a shop leaving your car running, but locked. You can make the brain lock all your doors when you get in it, unlock them when you remove the keys, heck, you can even set it up to turn your rear defroster on remotely. There's even a turbo timer.

If that's not enough you can buy a window module to roll down your windows, a radar alarm to protect your car with a radar zone, you can buy battery backups for the brain, tilt sensors, even a module to make the car talk... lol There are so many options its silly.

i have the Viper 791XV myself and it is amazing. i live in the desert where cold to me means summer to some of you guys, so i use my remote start in the morning while i brush my teeth or get ready so when i get in its good to good. I know the new 5900 is pretty much the same just has the mile range vs the 1/4 mile. i work at best buy so i bought it there and had them put it in. i dont know if it stands for all dei products or just best buy but when the buy the alarm the install is covered in the cost..... now i know some people have issues with best buy and their installers so its up to you to make that choice if you want to go there or not but thats what i have and i did do some add ons such as back up battery, motion senor and i am loving the alarm. but thats all i have to say.

I saw a remote start system at Circuit city yesterday for like $159 I think. It was not an alarm, just the start system....
