Default Seatbelt that strangles?

Does anyone else have a problem with the passenger side seatbelt locking all the time. Even when I have my foot off the break it still locks. Whats worse is that if you try to unlock it the shorter you make it the tighter it gets. The only way to get it unlocked is to take it off. So anyone else with a seatbelt that locks for no good reason.

They respond to G forces not the brake so any kind of fast turning or bumps usually triggers them to lock up. Sounds like yours may be malfunctioning and is a safety issue that should be covered with the warrenty I think beyond the 3 year 36k miles too.

You could get one of these.

uhh.. really.. how big are you or your passenger?

sounds like you pulled the seatbelt all the way out so the automatic locking retractor mechanism is engaged...

if the locking retractor is still being engaged.... go to the dealer to have it looked at.... haven't seen aynone else with that issue.

My passengers and I kind of get close to the wieght limit. hehe. (See my post under https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...7283&start=140 ) Well my passenger likes to attempt to change the radio station, that might be it not sure, and as you know the radio is quite a reach if you have short arms. I will try to put the seatbelt on without pulling it all the way out to see if that fixes the problem.

My wife hates it everytime she uses it. The dang thing drags and locks sometimes when we aren't moving yet. You can hear it semi catch and make dragging noises.
How much is the new assembly cause I may just buy it or pick up a used one?

Two things, first, our friend SquallLHeart is 100% correct, your passenger is engaging the ALR feature. This happens when the seatbelt is pulled out to its limit and is fed back in. Your best fix for that is to get a seat belt extender. They are free at your dealership (dealer may have to order them) and will give you some more slack in the belt. Unfortunately, THEY COMPROMISE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE SEAT BELT SYSTEM.

Second, seat belts have a warranty of 60 months or 60,000 miles (the same as your powertrain). Keep that in mind if you are having a mechanical problem with them like bB2NER.

Seat belts are the best passive safety system in any vehicle and your best bet to survive an accident. Keep them in good repair and do whatever you can to no compromise their integrity when modding.

Thanks Alex. That means I still have up to a year and a half to have the pass one replaced for free.

Mine usually locks when I stop fast to back into a driveway and then it ends up pinning me in the seat so that I can't turn enough to see behind me when I backup. BUT if you get into a situation where you are getting bounced around it sure helps to not go flying out of the seat.

My ex used to HATE it. hers would lock all the time. It got to the point where she would pull it out as little as possible when she buckled to try to avoid it but it still did it, And she was a tiny little thing. I used to give her crap about it all the time cuz i thought she was extending it out all the way or something but the first time i rode in the passenger seat after i broke my leg it did it to me the first time.
