Default Snorkel Removal... is it working for you?

After weeks and weeks of talking to different people on here and reading posts, last night I finally decided to remove the snorkel in my xB.

As of right now I have only driven it about 30-40 miles (to and from work, and to lunch today) but I can't really say that I notice any difference yet. I thought this morning, when I first got in and left my house, that I could feel a difference in the way it felt when going up hills... but I think it was in my head... lol I did notice a different sound though... not really sure how to explain it, but it was just a little "deeper" maybe?!?!... IDK

So what I want to know from you guys is:

1. What, if any changes have you noticed after removing your snorkel?
2. Are there any bad things that could come from removing it? (I assume it was put there for a reason)
3. any other input you guys have would be great!!!

I'll wind it up now... lol. Thanks for listening to my rambling...

I hope to hear some great feedback!!!

1 - I notice no difference in sound. But I dont care about som "cool" sound anyway.

2 - I have had a MPG increase. Only 2 tanks into it w/o the snork, but this last tank bumped me up another 3 MPG.

Aftermarket wheels, but they are 15s, no other I/E mods.

Just did it yesterday. I'm halfway into a tank, so I'll report back whenever I do a whole tank with it.

For the record, I'm usually around 28 MPG with a mix of highway and city.

working good for me. added a couple mpg for me too so far on 3 tanks of gas. sound didnt really matter to me, because to get the "sound" you would definately be killing the gas mileage which was the whole point for me.

I took mine off two weeks ago. I noticed a decrease in power in the midrange. I saw an increase of two miles per gallon, bumping me up to 33 mpg. The next tank I barely got 30 mpg. So back on it went. Midrange power came back, so I'm happy.

No jump in mileage for me either. I'm considering putting it back on, as hitting the upper mid range of the RPMs makes the engine sound like its loosing grip or something. Lots of vroom and little kick in the rear.

Wow... thanks for all of the input guys!! I still haven't really noticed a difference yet except for the sound. I will try to figure more out with the next tank of gas. I have a little less than a half a tank to go.

HeathenBrewing - As for the "cool" sound... I never said it was "cool" or that I liked it. All I said was that I noticed a difference in the sound, but didnt know how to describe it. I also did it as a MPG mod and not a "cool" sound mod.

I'll try it for a few more weeks, if nothing is different, then back on it goes! Thanks again for all of the input!

I'd highly recommend installing the K&N filter as well. I did mine in conjunction with each other, and as I originally posted, I'm getting at least a solid 4 mpg improvement.
However - you can't run around with your foot in it all the time to check out the new "sound", or to see how much more power you've got if you want better mileage!
Best of luck with your set-up!

ou_sooners_19 - I never said anything about you saying "cool sound", just a general observation from other people.

I think I dont notice the sound because I drive the same way I always have.

If you want to run a K&N I would recommend doing some serious research first especially if you live in a dry and/or dusty area.

Personally, I will be rocking the paper filter on any car that is not my "performance" ride.

HeathenBrewing: Sorry for the confusion on that!! I've read alot of peoples comments about the snorkel and they do think it's a cool sound. I was just saying that was the only difference I could really tell right away when it was installed.

Also, I do have a K&N filter dropped in. I live in Arkansas though, so it's not super dry or dusty. So should I have any problems with it?

No worries at all man.

I hate to open the bees nest again, since K&N is such a touchy subject, but I will give you my opinion:

More air flow comes with a price....less filtration.

I am looking to keep my box for many, many years. I will take a 1-2 MPG loss to protect my engine better and longer.
