Why would you get the mp3 upgrade?
OK, tell me if I'm missing something.
Let's say you want the following xB upgrades:
-Rims
-Mp3 stereo
-Racing pedals
and any other upgrades that replace original parts. Why pay for these from the dealer? Why not buy a stock and then return to the dealer to upgrade, therefor keeping the original parts? I know its not much, but i'm sure you could get some value out of the original stereo on ebay. it's the same price to install the upgraded parts no matter when you do it.

If you exchange the head unit the cost is $260. When I checked to order the upgrade on its own the price was around $600 from the dealers. No way I am paying that for an upgrade radio. Pay the $260 if you want factory; otherwise pull the original and put in something nice for the $260.

The pedals are cheaper to buy online, but the wheels are dependent on stock trade-ins.
It's worth noting that those are really the only 2 options that require stock trades. Everything else is basically an add-on that can be had for cheaper online.

The reason I mentioned the PC/laptop option:
Rather than having a device that JUST plays mp3s, you can spend a little more money and get a unit that you can use for everything:
- Navigation (if you want)
- playing dvds (if you want)
- play movies/divx rips, etc
- surfing the net (if you want)
- and so so so much more...
A sub $400 or $500 laptop (via tigerdirect.com or where ever) can do all that...
The only limit is your imagination!

The standard Scion radio will play mp3's, they have since the beginning Scion. If you are talking about the Aux input that is standrd on all 2006 xB's. If its the iPod radio you are talking about that is $260 when purchased with the car, after that it is much more due to installation of the iPod input and and the dealership can't get the $300 credit from Toyota for the origianal radio.

I like saving money (a lot) which is why I suggested the laptop. You can always use the laptop for other things too - work, school, etc.
And, yeah, you can play mp3s on the factory deck but, in my case, the deck has has trouble reading CDRW discs. Burning CDs with mp3s is a nice idea, but when you get a new song, you may have to reburn or get another CD. with the laptop option, you dont need to do anything. as long as the mp3 file is on the file system, you're set to go!

I was thinking about getting a set of Motegi 18" wheels from the dealer when I got my xB. The price online for the set I was looking at was $999 wheels & tires mounted & shipped......
The salesman told me that he had a hookup with a parts shop putting in a LARGE order for Motegi wheels, and he could probably get a better deal. They even agreed to let me keep the stockers for winter....
Well, time comes to pick up my box, and I found out that what he MEANT was that the DEALERSHIP was going to be selling different sets of wheels and whatnot... they tried to still sell them to me at $1800 + tax. I told them no way, cause that is wallet rape.... Only dealer add-ons I got were fog lights (wished I didn't get them, cause they aren't that great), dash trim package (that sucked too, already took it off), and the scion security. I wish they had the iPod option for the 2005 when I got mine...
