Isn't the xB based on the Echo. And considering the xB probably weighs more, I would say it's quite possible the xB is slower.

As for the the questions stated in this thread, the xB is among the slowest stock cars for sale right now. It has to be, because it is SLOW (but getting 30mpg is all good for me).
if both are manual the xB kills the echo it's economy gearing blows.

if both are auto the echo will be faster. cause bot use the same gearing for auto's .
The gearing in an echo is different and they are tons slower than the xB. The xB is by no means a race car, and anyone who is expecting in to be should have gone with another car.

The Mitsubishi Montero SUV was the slowest car two years ago, not sure if that's still true but I'd guess so. Weak engine coupled with a few thousand pounds of weight means very slow. I haven't broken in the engine and done an oil change yet and I'd say it is not slow. I'm not even revving my auto box to 5000rpm and passing most of the people on the road!

I really don't think the xB is THAT slow...mines a 5 speed and it's a lot faster than my 5-speed S10. I like driving up big hills...I zoom past people and they give me this "dang" kinda look.

When Car & Driver did the Rebellious Boxes comparison last winter, they said:

http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...ment-ex-p.html

The 9.6 seconds for the xB's 0-60 mph is respectable. My 5-speed feels fast around town and up to 60 mph. The smooth and easy clutch and gearbox, and the willing engine, make it seem faster than it really is. Only after 60 mph does the acceleration feel slow.

Wise man say 'a poor ride better than proud walk'

as far as engine swap, go do a Google search on 'Scion rotary' and read about someone wanting to put a Mazda rotary into his xB. Includes some pics...

i just love my (wife's) Salsa Red xB. I can't wait for weekends when I get to drive it!

The xB could give the new MINI Cooper (MINI One) a good run for the money.

I don't know about this new Mini One, but the old (2006) Mini had specs close the xB. Both weigh 2500 lbs and both have DOHC VVT 1.5L engines.
Differences: The old Mini makes about 10 more HP, and that plus the smaller frontal area give it about 20 mph more top speed according the the two mfr's specs. A bare old Mini manual also cost about $4,000 more than an xB manual.

Echo a couple hundred pounds lighter and better aerodynamics with same engine---got to be faster.

No it isn't. I have both a new Scion xB and a 6 year old Echo with 285,000 miles. My Echo is faster.
