there is no way the echo is faster. the scion xb's manual versus an echo manual. the horrendous gear ratios in the echo suck total ****.

 

it as horrendous gearing . auto to auto the eco's/yaris are faster . manual to manual the xB's zippy greas kill the eco/yaris

 

3rd class driving sure beats first class walking!!

 

After having the car for less than a month, all people ask me is, "so the car is pretty slow, huh?" Well, regardless of how fast it can accelerate, I'm consistently passing people on the road. And the engine's not broken in so I don't drive it hard and rarely push it past 4500rpm. Getting to the destination on time and getting 30mpg....that's sweet

 

When I was at the track, the Prius was beating me by almost half a second. I've got an auto with several bolt-ons and light wheels and I could only break under 18 seconds twice out of 18 runs. But you better be on your toes if you plan to leave me at the light...

 

Alright, there is just something a bit scary to me about a car like the xB having some power. Won't it just roll like a dice game if it gets going to fast in a turn? btw I am loving the talk of engine swaps.. that sounds like some potentially great stuff.

 

if you are at stock height with dead shocks yes. if you are lowered on stock shocks probably not , if you are dropped 4 inches up front and 3 inches out back on racing coilovers like I am ? HELL no. lol

 

I think the big difference here is manual vs auto. I've got a 2006 xb with the 5 speed, my wife has a 2006 xa with the automatic. Driving them is like night and day. The main difference is that I can control the engine revs with the manual. If I'm in the mood for some spirited driving, I'll keep the revs in the 4k range (especially fun on the twisties). The tall gearing in the auto just can't compete--I hate driving the wife's car.

 

It's not that big of a difference, IMO. I was less than a second slower than manual xBs with somewhat similar setups. I don't think any of the sticks were getting out of the 17s.

 

i know you said in stock form and i know i will probably get chewed out about this but. DROP A TURBO in the biznatch. im sure u could take some names then...ahahah

 

Wow engine swapping, etc... sounds like a lot of money. Maybe even enough to spring for a sports car as opposed to economy since apparently that's what you want.

 

It's not about going fast, it's about making THIS car go faster...

just trying to make this car the best it can possibly be. i still have motorcycles for speed.

 

Never a truer statement. You know you're hooked on modding a car when you hang up the phone after ordering leopard print carpet for the roof of your Cadillac... the outside of the roof... so you can get that true pimp look. I miss that car...

Lets set the record straight right away for the 2008 models. If I remember correctly, 1st gen xB's, manual shift was in the high 9's 0-60, and auto in the mid 10's.
We are as fast as at least 30 new 2008's (I just listed the 10's and over) . Of course these would be times with the smallest engine selection. (We just didn't happen to have an engine choice)
