I was first attracted to the xB by something that neither the Fit nor any other such car has: near-vertical A pillars. Easy for a tall person to get in and out.

The same boxiness that gives the xB driver more room, also gives the rear seat passengers and the engine more room.

People ask me why I bought the style of the xB. I tell them it is not a "styled" car. The appearance comes from the functionality of a box. People who are turned off by the xB may go for the style of the Fit, but that styling steals space. I prefer the roominess of the xB.

I hear you guys making alot of comparisons to the box .. however after seeing the pics of a stock Fit, I honestly believe it is a closer match to the Matrix, or am I the only one seeing this ?

the comparison cars to fit that Honda considers are Toyota Vitz(the yaris), Nissan (March) Toyota ist (Scion xA) and Toyota bB(Scion xB)
those are the best selling small cars in japan
but the main compatitors are the Vitz, ist and March.
honda has a model called Mobilio and it looks more like Toyota bB(Mobilio is a bit bigger though)
Honda maybe considers mobilio as a compatitor of bB.

UMMM. You forgot 2 of the most important things that makes the xB rule the Fit. 1.Shape (cool factor)
2. Fun to drive attitude.
Actually, the Fit is supposed to be quite fun to drive as well. I think both are on par in that catagory. Though I'm waiting to test drive both to know for sure. :D

Actually the xA is a more appropriate. The Matrix and the Fit may look similar, but the Matrix is bigger, heavier, more expensive, has a larger displacement engine, and (IMO) falls into a different catagory.

it seems like japan has some nice small cars. I think they need to bring them to the states, so gas prices can go down.

Remember that the xB was just tested by Car and Driver and overtook the HHR, PT Cruiser and *Element*

Hope it helps at least a little bit.

I'm affraid that if we started using less gas, the prices would go up higher so they can still make their record profits.

As far as the Fit discussion goes, I personally wanna see it and test drive it. The only circumstance I would trade my xB in is when they can pay my car off .... And I would buy it because of the paddle shift, its a poor's man Ferrari Tech in that lil car(dunno if Ferrari is the first one to have that in A CAR). I mean ugly or not is in the eyes of the beholder, not what other ppl say. I have heard many insults to my xB, what did I do? I jus took them in as a good comment, jus cuz ppl dun agree wid u doesn't translate them into a bad person.

I like the xB more. The ist has been out for the same amount of time as the bB. I think the Fit is more of the xA's competition. If they bring the JDM Odyssey Absolute I would get it, who cares if its a minivan!!

Default Fit or Jazz

First to try and answer the original poster's question, I have not driven a Fit, but, I have sat in several Honda Jazz's and I rented a Honda City which shares the platform and interior with the Jazz/Fit. The biggest difference you will experience is the execution of the interior space. What I mean is, and I should say that I am just shy of 6’ in height, that just about every time I got out of one I banged my head plus the space for the driver is significantly smaller than in the xB, which I personally own, which gave it a more cramped feeling inside then add to that the contortions I had to make every time I wedged myself between the steering wheel and seat when getting in or out, and I am only 180 pounds. I would expect Honda to add more seat travel for the US market which would help a whole lot! So, the Jazz was too small for me inside, while the xB offers similar space in cubic feet, in everyday use the xB is far more versatile and spacious. Here is a different contender from Korea I found in Vientiane the capitol of Laos:

TOYOTA

bB(the new one)

Ractis

Corolla Runx

Passo

Tanto

Vitz(the yaris)

ist (the xA)

NISSAN

March

Cube

Note

Honda

Fit

Mobilio Spike

Mazda

Verisa

Demio

Mitsubishi

Colt

I guess Honda Mobilio Spike, and Nissan Cube are the competitor of bB(xB).
Fit, Demio, March are the competitor of ist(xA).

which one would you buy from the list?
I would go for Nissan Cube too.

the fit is cool, but let's face it....the xB is way cooler!

case in point:

the fit looks like a kia that looks like the little chevy, that looks like the nissan, that looks likethe ford...that looks like all the other same looking little cars...they all look the same.....ahev roughly the sme dimensions......same engine displacement.....SAME SAME SAME!

the xB............revolutionary......unique...........quirky cool......in a class by itself.......i may be stretching it, but in my book, the xB is actually quite exotic!

having said that.......te big plus with the FIT.........5 speed auto! butthat's about it.
