xB vs. Honda FIT
I just traded in my xB of two years for a Vivid Blue Pearl Fit Sport. I loved my xB, but the Fit is really more car for the money and better in many, many ways. I was going to post a write up of the differences between the two and my first impressions, but it got too long so I quit. If you have any questions let me know and I'll answer them as best I can. I will say that in general, it feels much more like a sports car than anything else, and I think once I break it in and get used to it, it's really gonna shine.
Thanks! A lot of the xB comparison has to do with the Honda's campaign to promote small outside, big inside for the Fit I think, and it's hip nature. Those are the two main points of the xB as well, so hence the comparison. Size and shape-wise though, you're on the money -- the Fit is much closer to the xA than xB, though I think it's length is maybe closer to the xB. I will say one thing, for a car with similar weight and power, the Fit feels much lighter and peppier than my xB ever did. It's new so I'm not pushing it, but definitely when you get up in the revs ~4000 rpm the engine really seems to come alive and the car starts to pull hard, almost like having a turbo. I can't wait till I get some more miles on it and can really give it the gas, I think it'll fly.
No, my mistake, I kind of phrased it wrong -- I wasn't meaning power output like a turbo'd car, but power delivery like a turbo car. xB tended to feel pretty even across the rev range with decent low-end, a nice bump in the mid-range around 3500/4500 rpm, and the power crapping out around 6000; Fit also has similar low-end, but when you get to the mid-range bump near/when the VTEC kicks in ~4500 it comes on harder and more quickly then the xB. What it does in the higher end yet, I don't know 'cause it's only a 100 miles on it still and I'm not gonna push until it gets to the 600 miles Honda recommends waiting to. In any case, it feels stronger than the xB which is the only thing I'm comparing it to, as the xB is dog **** slow as well.
The xB is not in competition with the Fit. Car and Driver recently compared 7-competitors ($15K range). The Fit is more in battle with the 5-Door Nissan/Renault Versa.

True Box owners don't
Packy: Yes, definitely try them both first. They are different and both have good and bad points you need to weigh. I was a True Box owner, and I would never buy a vehicle I didn't try first no matter what it was.

What Toyota did that was so special was introduce an entire new generation to an entirely new car with an entirely new way of doing things. The combination of all those things is what is so special.

What would you have done if you thought the ride was harsh? Or if it was uncomfortable for long trips? I'm not saying it is, but you can only get the true feel of a car by driving it. It'd be like deciding I like a specific food on looks alone. Ask for a free sample first.
Anyway, back on topic! I like the extras the Fit Sport comes with. Things like alloys, fogs, security, cruise, etc are all standard on the Sport model. Adding aftermarket cruise ($399) and the Scion alloys (and not worrying about security), after all fees and title $, etc, the xB comes to $16,652 and the Fit Sport comes to $16,738. Too close to just pick one .
Yes, it's a real toss-up between the two I'd say. It's one thing to go from one to the other like I did, but to have to decide from either at the outset is tough. For me, it was all about performance, and while the xB has surprisingly good performance, I'm already starting to notice the Fit is that much more -- i.e. I have a favorite tight off-ramp that I could do at about 40-43 in the xB, which is pretty quick compared to a lot of vehicles, but tonight I did it at almost 50 in the Fit and it wasn't scary at all. Big grin all the way home!

I'm considering on trading up. I read a review on edmunds.com and it sounds like a nice little car. I'll have to go check it out when my local dealer gets one. I like all the extra features they threw in. Plus they have an orange color!
I don't understand the constant comparison between the Fit and the xB. Even Honda's own site for the Fit allows you to compare it to the xA, NOT the xB.
Oh, and the side-by-side comparo is kind of amusing, considering there's definite misinformation in their xA stats, as well as failure to acknowledge when the non-Honda car has a clear advantage. Why have a comparo if you're not even going to feign objectivity?
Not worth the money over the xA IMO.
