Hey guys....

Anybody have a guess as to what a new front bumper costs, and if they can be ordered pre-painted or in primer only? Some a$$hole with a jacked up RAM backed into my Xb and punched a nice hole in my bumper with his trailer hitch tonight, and of course bailed ( I got a plate number though....if it does any good).

My insurance deductible is $500.00. If it is less than that to order a new one and have painted, the obviously will avoid going through my insurance, and just do the install myself.

Or.. even better...if anybody in SoCal has a Hypnotic Teal Mica front bumper for sale.....let me know.

Ouch! If you got the plate number then file a police report. The police can find him and then you can go after him through his insurance, if he has any. If not you can try to go through small claims court. Either way at least the cops will tag him. That being said, not to be too much of a vulture, when you do get it taken care of hit me up. I need front and rear bumpers for a project and they don't need to be in good condition.

From your S/N I'd say you came from the same car I did. Had an 06 Pepper White S.

 

you will have to pay up front the 500, go through insurance and that way you have some chance of recovering the money. If you get a police report (that may just give you a referance number which is good enough) it will prob bring your deductible down to $250. Trust me ive been through this twice. If you need any help PM me. As long as you have a plate number and its not a stolen plate, than you shouldnt have much to worry about other than possibly rising insurance rates. But if its any consolation, mine have not risin at all due to the not-at-fault accidents.

 

New bumper is about 2 bills plus paint.

I hope you filed a report. IMO I would try to resolve this FIRST without your insurance simply because your deductible is so high and you have very minor damage (your damages may not even exceed your deductible).

 

bumper, shipping, and paint . . . definitely more than $500. unless you find a super cheap auto body shop. just to color match and paint the whole bumper will run at least 400.

 

I am having my bumper replaced through insurance next week and the price for the front bumper unpainted is $210.49. The guy at the body shop said that they have to match the paint color because the paint codes are not always accurate. He also said they bake the bumper after painting to make sure the paint is hard and cured right. I would guess you could get the bumper painted for less than what this shop is charging which is 3.7 hours at $46 an hour for $170.20 plus $103.60 for paint materials. Plus there are some other fees in there for misc things and tax so around $525. Because it is close to what your deductible is it might be worth it to try and do it yourself. Maybe an Earl Scheib paint job on the front bumper. Since you are in California maybe you can find a used front bumper at a junk yard or maybe from someone who has replaced theirs with an after market bumper. Check ebay, Craigs list, and the other Scion xB websites for used bumpers. Hope this info helps.
