How-to: Black Headlight Mod
I added a nice bead of silicone when I reassembled mine. Its been about 8 months and no problems at all, even with a bunch of gnarly Florida rainstorms and weekly car washes.
I was wondering where this was! I haven't heard of anyone doing this for a while!
I've had mine done for quite some time with absolutely no condensation. I didn't even add any extra sealant.

To be honest, I was in a bit of a hurry..trying to get finished before the wife got home and found car parts in the oven
Patience helps when taking the covers off, and a heat gun will work just as well as an oven. Faster actually.

I really want to try it on my 2011, but the headlights are different, and I'm not sure how similar the piece inside that gets painted is. I'd hate to get it apart and there not be much there to paint (which is what it looks like to me.) Hard to tell without baking the lights though.
I've been trying to find a 2011 headlight on eBay, but they're all 2008-2010s so far.
EDIT: Correction, there is one, and it's currently BIN for $175.

Quick question in relation to painting the inside of your headlights....
A couple years ago, when I first bought my xB, I stumbled upon a thread either on here, clubxb.com, or newscionxb.com, about a headlight painting pic thread which I cannot find now. Anyways, there was one guy that that had painted/tinted the highbeam chrome part of the headlight in a yellow color. I thought it looked freakin hot, but I cannot find that thread anymore to see exactly how he did it and what he used..
If any of you guys/gals know what I'm talking about, please post up a link...I think that this might be my next cheap mod...

I'll be doing what randomsuper did, hope he doesn't mind me copying his idea...wonder what paint he used and how it's holding up so far. Nevermind, saw he used Krylon glass paint...now I have a project for tomorrow...:-)

He covered it in the third page of that thread.

I saw him post a pic of his xB on a car audio forum I moderate. I was actually wanting to do the same thing since I already have a set of headlights torn apart for my S2k retro... :D

Found a can of the yellow Krylon at Michaels today, last one on the shelf...I will be starting this project in a few minutes...
I don't think that I'm going to paint anything black, just the highbeam and turn signal area yellow, hopefully it turns out decent...

Well, I give a big thanks to 08SWbox for the how-to write up. His times and temps with the oven are spot on and they worked perfect for me. I was originally gonna paint some of the chrome black, but I gave up on that due to the amount of taping off and prep work. Big props to randomsuper with the job that he did on his headlights. Too much work for me
...
I did however paint the high beam and turn signal area's yellow and put the headlights back together again. I only have a teaser shot for now, but I like the way they came out. Very subtle, but still different enough to be noticed...

I just gotta pick up some yellow bulbs for my high beams and turn signals and I think that it'll look even better.
The only boo-boo that I had was I used the wrong color RTV sealant when I put lights back together. So now I have blue sealant showing through the edges, but once I installed the headlights back on my car, you can't see the blue anyways so oh well...just a piece of advise, use the black color sealant ;-)
I'll try and take some pics of them installed in the morning, but overall I think they work with my style I'm going for. Again big thanks to the OP for the step-by-step and randomsuper for the inspiration...
