Question LED tail light problems

I have the upgraded LED Tail lights on my 09 xb that were installed at the dealer when it was new. i had the brake light section of the light go out on the driver's side a few months back and had it replaced under warranty ($350) at the dealer, but now the same thing has happened on the passenger side and my car is out of warranty. I really like the looks of these tail lights, but I cant afford to keep replacing them bc they are clearly defective. Any suggestions on what is wrong, or some new tail lights i could get that look good?

I'm betting you have the TYC tails. They are know to be junk, which is why Scion no longer carries them. Do a search under 'Longo tails' for a popular alternative.

Unfortunately they are defective and are renown for being poor quality. Toyota does not make them and they are no longer selling them as options.

If you are good with soldering, you might want to consider opening up the tail lights and rebuilding the LEDs yourself, since it is out of warranty.

The Longo tails suggested above are superior alternatives. I have had mine for 1.5 years with absolutely no problems. They are still as bright as ever and look great.

Anybody have any suggestions on quality tails besides the Longos, or are they pretty much the only way to go?

AFAIK the TYC tails are the only ones that fail constantly. There are several other styles sold under names like Anzo, Altezza, Longo, etc.

I have the ones pictured below and like them. No problems in well over a year and others have had them for 3+ years now.

Stock. It may suck, but they're damned near fool-proof.

I had 2 sets of the TYC's and I am sorely disappointed. Actually apalled that I didn't even get a decent refund since they knew they were junk after they kept failing.

TYC tails are pure ****. I just posted this not too long ago:

I just ordered a replacement off of eBay and am keeping my fingers crossed. I think the TYC design is the nicest but I also wish there could be some class-action against the company or another form of recourse to justify their mistake.

So after 4 years my driver side TYC tail decided to finally bite the dust. Looking to sell the passenger tail to anyone that needs one to complete the set. PM me for pics and offers.
