2010 xB With a 2007 tC Engine
I bought my 2010 Scion xB from a small, local car dealership for about $4,000. The person who sold me my car told me they replaced its engine with the engine out of a 2007 Scion tC. He wasn't entirely sure why, but he said the engine that was in the xB was broken.
The tC my engine came out of was totaled, so they just took out its engine and put it in my car. I have the VINs from both my xB and the tC, and I've run them through ScionLife's VIN decoder. So yeah. I just thought that was a cool thing I would share.
My xB has an oil leak and I assume it has something to do with either the engine swap or the engine itself. The tC that the engine came from was totaled from a front end collision and it looks pretty bad -- totally undriveable. I'm going to try to upload some pictures of the tC in my car's album later.

They most likely replaced the engine due to it seizing up from oil starvation. Just google Toyota 2AZ-FE oil consumption and you see why. Now for the bad part. That engine they put in there is not really the right engine for your car. Yes it's the same basic engine but in 08 Toyota made some upgrades to the 2AZ-FE engine design. What it boils down to is that the engine currently in your car has less horsepower that the original one, has no oil squirters under the pistons, though with the lower compression that may not be an issue, and there is a known issue with the head studs loosening on the 06-07 tC engines.
that's not to say you'll have any issues with the engine but these are the thing you want to look out for going down the road. especially keep an eye on the oil because it is a sign of the oil consumption issue.
