I'm new at this since I didn't have an issue with my old 1997 Toyota Paseo. It's embarrassing but where do I add the transmission fluid in my 2008 Scion xB?
I checked videos and images and they all show it differently. Images and videos showed both the dipstick near the battery and the one under where you fill the engine with oil.
It's confusing as well since I've also seen the yellow dipstick in both places as well. I bought it used so I don't know if the guy switched the spot as well.
I know it's a newbie question but I came to this confusing because I get delays in shifting and higher revs than normal.
In that photo the transmission fluid dipstick is on the right side of the engine bay next to the battery - black T handle.
When adding fluid to an automatic the vehicle should be at operating temperature and idling. I would suggest changing the fluid instead of just adding more with the issues you're having. It should be changed every 30k (never flushed, but drain and refills every 30k for best performance).
If manual (does not sound like you have a mtx, but posting this in case someone else reads it) - then there will be no dipstick and the transmission is full when it starts leaking back out of the fill tube.
Yeah the one next to the battery. check the level with the car warmed up and running on a level surface. Check the color and if it smells burnt at all. I'd do a couple drain and refills, much easier on this car than most since it has a dipstick. How many miles on your 2008?
The fluid goes in thru the dipstick tube. Not ideal as it messes up the dipstick reading, but it is what it is.
Yellow handle dipstick is engine oil.
I bet there is an owners manual on-line somewhere
