Please Enlighten...2013 Engine Integrity..
Whoa boy...I just bought a super clean 2013 xB with 16,452 miles on it. I researched cars carefully and decided on the 2nd Gen xB. Twice, the dealer told me to get a 2012 or later and to avoid the 08 and 09 models.
Now I am seeing reference on this site that the 2013 may possibly develop oil consumption problems...somebody please tell me it isn't true! I was so happy with the car, I am retired and drive sparingly.
I hate to think I have to look forward to this ring problem or whatever it was.
Can anyone make me feel better?

I just bought a 2012 xB with 142,000 miles and it has used 1 Quart in the last 3 k miles. 😳 I was told (after the fact) that Toyota put the wrong size rings in the early 2nd gen Scions. My mechanic told me I'd be better off to just add the oil when needed rather rather paying for a new rings job.
I'm disappointed, to say the least. I had a 2006 xB before and put 236 K miles on it without burning 1 quart of oil. I could have gone another 50k if it hadn't rusted out underneath both sides of the rear chassis.
There is a lot less possibility of having the oil consumption issue with the 2012 and up vehicles. It usually doesn't start until 80K miles so if you drive as sparingly as my retired parents do you will probably never have an issue.
I think you will be fine with regular 5K mile oil changes (or less) and just keep the rpm under 4K so you don't stress it to the max.
If I recall, the problem is with drain holes behind the oil ring on the piston. They dropped one (of the 4) to make it cheaper and now the rings can clog up.
My '09 is at 85K right now and not burning oil yet
The other thing you will avoid by keeping it under 4K is the "pink line" from the water pump seal. I believe if revved higher consistently it will lift off and leak coolant.
Had the line once and just eased back on the rpm and it went away.
