What good power mods are out there? Nothing extensive like full engine rebuild or turbo, just simple power to ground upgrades or free up hp. Current mods are intake, tsudo catback and lightweight pulley.

 

umm nothing unless your going boost. bolt ons are a complete waste on the 2azfe platform. simple bolt ons I/H/E/P will cost roughly over $1,000 and will get you nowhere near 170 whp

seriously though, bolt ons ARE worthless, sad to say. if you want cool sound when you punch it, I/H/E are all you can do, which you have. the only other option is BC cams with either AEM fic or greddy emanage and some bigger injectors. not to mention a killer tune. even that won't net you too terribly much. boost, my friend, boost. i want boost myself but i'm not spending the money to do it, there are better platforms than the tC

If you gonna do bolts ons, do them all at once and you'll feel a lot better about your investment. Another add on that doesn't generate power but will enhance your driving experience is suspension upgrade.

Car will handle much better and control of speed in your car will be easier to manage.

Bolt ons = minimal power increase (trust me I know).
Turbo (Boosted) = major power increase, but your maintenance issues could be serious if you don't know what your doing. Plus you know have to go higher octane (more gas money) and change your oil every 2500k just to be safe. The cost of a boosted system will be as much as a used faster car.

IMO if you want a faster car, buy a faster car....

For what it's worth, this question is asked on a regular basis, hence some of the sarcastic responses (stickers lol)

Intake, exhaust header, catback exhaust and pullies net very low real world gains. While user friendly, these mods together are costly and for the most, just add sound if not psychological gains.

This is a upgrade path frequently taken, and I've seen it happen repeatedly. individual components add power here & there. and after those options are maxed out, the owner eventually adds forced induction which means replacing exhaust headers and intake pipes, rendering several hundred dollars initially spent on intake and race headers useless.

That being said, it doesn't mean it's not fun. If you're looking to add some zip to daily commuting or a beer or grocery run, IHE upgrades (especially sometimes pulleys and even a unichip) will at least come close to restoring 160 back to the wheels (from the estimated calculated 139.) However if you're headed to the strip or need power for other related activities, boost is the only way to go.

 

I forgot, you could also get a bottle of the Nitrous and that will give you significant push but again risky business if you don't know what your doing.

To be honest I think the safest bang for the buck was the super charger that TRD offered at one point but no longer. It wasn't faster then being boosted but at least your covered with a warranty for a year and you would be faster then the average XB with bolt ons...

 

I agree that if you truly want serious gains, forced induction is the only way to go. However, if you're looking for a respectable bump with an enjoyable uptick in power-sound, the IEH approach works well.

I've only done intake, pulley, cat-back, (and a TB P&P) myself, but I'm satisfied with my perceived performance upgrade over OE. As always, to each their own .

 

Yea all I am looking for is some pep. This car isn't worth dumping a lot of money into for power. I just want a fun car not a money hog.

Spend some money on suspension and you'll notice significant change in your driving experience. If you want a little pep in your step, bolt ons are cool and require little maintenance. They do generate more horsepower, its been proven many times over, but you just wont really feel it that much compared to a turbo kit.

I feel your pain too. I didn't buy this car with the intention of burning down the road, but every now and then I miss that instant acceleration of my previous vehicles.

Well I'll keep the Scion for another 1 or 2 years of maintenance free living, and then go back to Audi and have it in the shop every other month, but be loving the OEM turbo.

 

Since you already have an intake (presumably a CAI), the next biggest bang for the buck bolt-on is a header (~10hp). After that you can spend a lot just to add another 10whp.
