I'm just gauging interest in a bolt-on turbo kit that would add about 100 BHP at 5-6psi boost without the added cost, complications and problems of add-on engine management. I've already done all the hard work figuring out what works and what doesn't. If there is enough interest, I might consider putting a package together.
Here is what the kit would look like:

I need to put together a parts list and check the costs to see if this is even feasible. After posting this I noticed that World Racing now has a tuner kit for $2995 that should work just as well without the buggy FIC if you add 440cc injectors and a 5-6psi WG spring.
225whp seems to be fairly safe for our AT with an external ATF cooler. Of course putting an extra 100 hp through the tranny may very well shorten it's useful service life and individual results will vary from car to car and driver to driver. Beat on the tranny hard enough and often enough and it obviously won't last as long. I've got 20k + boosted miles on mine now and it's not showing any signs of wear.

I want to switch my transmission to manual so that I can go faster, but considering that I'd be investing so much money into the xB for this ability...
I'd rather stick to a turbo auto xB.

Thanks. I posted this on impulse and after seeing that World Racing has a tuner kit for $2995, I can't see this going anywhere. Since the WR kit uses the oe airbox, it should work very well with 440cc and 5-6psi without a piggyhack. All you have to add are T-bolt clamps, that should come with it, but they don't cost much (which makes me wonder why they aren't included in the first place?). Worm gear clamps suck for sealing silicone couplers. I don't even use them on my intake pipe, just the air filter attachment.
Still, if there is enough interest, I might consider making a few kits. I do know that this setup works very well without a piggy. The only CEL in 2+ weeks was a P0420 for cat efficiency and that hasn't appeared in over a week since I installed a CEL eliminator pipe on the #2 O2 sensor.

I've logged about 15,000 miles on my XB now with 440cc injs, a T3/T04E 50 trim turbo and no add-on engine management. It worked fairly well with the 2.75" CXR intake but works very well with my new 3" intake. Since the WM kit uses the oe airbox, it should work very well too. The key to running boost without add-on management is to stay within the ECU's range. This means 440cc max inj size, 5-7psi max boost, 225-250BHP max and the MAF signal needs to be very accurate. Using the oe airbox is a great way to ensure accurate MAF measurement.
If I were to put together a kit, it would incude everything including injectors and a Split Second Enricher to add AFR enrichment in closed loop. The biggest problem would be fabbing a downpipe that mates to the stock s-pipe. It might prove easier to include a DP/S-pipe combo. Either way, it won't happen quickly and probably not at all.
If I were starting over today, I'd talk to WM about getting a complete bolt-on tuner kit and then add 440cc injectors and the SS Enricher. I've never been happier with my XB than I am right now. No CELs at all, no FIC harness problems, resistor mods, annoying piggyhack hiccups, stock fuel economy (if I stay out of boost) and 75-100 extra WHP.
ok just humor me fred. my friend just had his tc tuned at ptuning running 7 pounds on an automatic RS1. Freaking sick. soo eventhough im far from having 3 grand. i have the UNichip ecu mangement thing. if i did a kit like yours would that affect things? i would love to boost mine. but i should most likely finish college first so i can afford the upkeep on it. but still. just in case i win a lottery. would that unichip affect things and with my strup header/tenzo/and ebay catback would a smiliar bolt on work or would i need more modifaction

Just leep in mind that boost can easily become a money pit. I must have $7k in mine now and am hoping to recover maybe $2k for used parts that I'm no longer using.
yea my friend got a greddy kit. for about 1500 but 500 at ptuning and lots of other work hes gotta have put at least 5 grand in there. new manifolds n all that stuff. i will keep all of this in mind. thanks
Honestly for the DIY guy on a budget this is the way to go. For under $3,300 you could be boosted with a lifetime warranty on your parts.

The DESCENDANT Tuner Friendly Kit for $2995 is a bolt-on kit that includes everything you need to boost your car minus fuel management. At this point there's several different options for tuning Scion's and if you are interested in the DESCENDANT Kit but don't like the AEM tuning system we use with our Turn Key kit you have options.

Hey Rob,
So your tuner kit does include the necessary silicone couplers? The WM site doesn't list or picture them so I wasn't sure. Is there at least one O2 bung in the s-pipe? There should be two, one for the #2 oe sensor and one for a wide band sensor. Not that O2 bungs are a big deal to add.
With or without the O2 bungs, this is still the tuner kit to buy for a XB2. I can't compete with this and make it worth my time. FWIW, this is what I'd buy if I was starting over today.
Yes, the S-pipe has O2 sensor.

Yes, the Tuner Friendly Kit has EVERYTHING you need to turbocharge your xB minus the fuel management. It is the exact same as our "Bolt-On & Go" turn-key system just no AEM FIC, No RC injectors, No Harness.
Yes, the S-pipe has O2 sensor.
