Default 2010 xB Alpine factory unit enable dvd

Looking at some other posts on the board. I've seen that some people have enabled viewing of video on the hu bu grounding the red wire on the ebrake.

but i am still a bit confused.

does this mean i can put a dvd in the alpine hu and it will play a dvd movie and show the video?

or do you have to use an external dvd player to play the movie?

I'm really interested in being able to play movies on the hu. I'd like to play movies for the kids.

The car is a lease and i don't want to put that much money into it by getting the head rest video units.

so if this won't play a dvd. or other type of video cd for that matter.

Can I attach a dvd player via plugs in the back?
and will it play while driving?

Default Eureka: I found it!

Good news everyone!

I think I found out how to play video on this unit.

you need the following
http://www.optomizescion.com/Product...px?ProdID=3866

and
http://www.optomizescion.com/Product...px?ProdID=3763

If anyone wants to do any additional research to confirm. I'd appreciate this.

grey580, thank you for giving credit to my post for the diagram.

You are correct that the harness you find on Optimize Scion will enable video input on the unit. Your Toyo/Scion dealer should be able get it for you for about $25 delivered or so.

This contains the video input harness that does composite video and RCA left/right audio input. It also contains a harness that has 2 inputs for the backup camera and the e-brake to enable video playback. If you have a off-road/show vehicle you can just ground the e-brake wire in the harness to allow video playback at all times.

This unit will not playback DVDs on its own. You would need an external DVD player. You can also use the iPod video output harness you linked on Optimize Scion. You can use ANY iPod video harness though, you do not need to use the Scoshe one they list although it is a more inexpensive alternative to the Apple one.

The yellow RCA jack on the back of the unit is for the backup camera input.

The unit will not do video playback while the e-brake signal wire in the Alpine video input harness kit is not receiving a ground. The instructions say to tap it to the e-brake signal wire in the center console. I have the instructions scanned and placed on-line in my post.

I will post pictures of the Alpine video input harness in my post once I install my backup camera this weekend.

Good news finally the dealer got around to ordering the cabe.
and after installing it this morning, btw the instructions are wrong when dealing with the reverse cable. it's the blue one not the green one.
I just grounded that cable on one of the bolts that bolts in the head unit.
after doing that the unit plays video.
I didn't even bother connecting the back up camera cable since i don't have a back up camera.

here's a video of the head unit playing lord of the rings. audio sounds great too.

3 seperate chicagoland dealers and not one of them can find this part to order! very frustrating! they don't believe this harness even exists. can one of you who have purchased this provide an invoice or sales order so I can show it to my local dealers?

thanks in advance...

you need to do the following.

Tell your dealer to go to this website and order the part

http://www.optomizescion.com/Product...px?ProdID=3866

or contact the website and ask them who sells this in your area.

It took me some time. But I finally got my dealer to order the part.
Installation is very easy. You'll just need socket wrench to take out the radio.

thanks all for the info. i actually ended up ordering it thru TRDSparks. very helpful those guys. now i'm just waiting for it in the mail.

@ grey, i saw that you had your cables tucked into the glove, i was thinking about this adapter and mounting it either inside the glove or down by the lighter jack, just so it looks a little cleaner. i figure for $7 from Amazon it's worth a shot.

Eventually I'm thinking about fishing the wire under the carpet and over to the console. And hide the wires in there somehow.

I just have to do it one day when the wife is doing something with the kids.
