DIY Tutorial: my xB2 Custom Gauge Face

bb_ist, I don't think it'll look too much better -- but of course you're welcome to try. I just think maybe the backlight shining through would be *too* bright man

i dont want to open the package, because its anti static packaging...

my led's came in a strip about a quarter inch high by about 3 inches long.. each white led square was in it's own little tiny compartment in the strip.. & the resistors came in like a static bag & they were strung together as well...... I cannot temember if they were in the same anti static pack, though...... anyways. good luck.. jh.... hhhhhmmmmmmmm

One question I have is.. can you make one of thes WITHOUT the ICONS for lights, cruise, & stuff......... Why do those have to be printed?? or can they be printed on a second overlay to be used UNDER your finished one>>?? Will they shine thru to the final one without the icons..???? .. jh

i appreciate the ALL positive feedback i've gotten here, and i do appreciate your requests for me doing the photoshop work, but i just don't have time... 60+ hour workweeks at my job have been excruciating, plus i have tons of commitments so i barely have time for myself as it is, you know how it is, never enough hours in a day... =( i hope u guys understand where i'm coming from.
initially i spent a lot of time posting this tutorial cause i wanted to empower others with an incredibly inexpensive way to make quality gauges. and i may not have the time to work on designs, but i completely welcome anyone else to help others with the photoshopping cause i know there are ppl with photoshopping skillz on here (i.e. moosemobile? sho0b0x?) hell maybe someone with some entrepreneurial skills could turn this into a small photoshopping business.

underlay icons... i've never tried but in my opinion a second underlay would not work well using this method, because anything dark/black on the *overlay* would cover up anything behind it. you need the gray icons to allow the light behind to pass through.
i bet there are exceptions where a second underlay would work, but first your gauge would need to be *white* on the areas where any icon shows underneath. secondly, you'd have to choose graphic designs carefully so as not to cover the light of the icons on the underlay. and even if you did... the main problem is that the two pieces of photo paper might mask nearly all of the colored icon light behind, so the dark red "brake' might come through being light red.
