Default Key works intermittently, alarm has mind of it's own..

My key fob started working intermittently, the alarm locks the doors and sets itself while sitting the driveway or I working the car. The alarm went off late at night. I am planning to have the lock smith who does my keys to run a diagnostic on the alarm system but warned me that I may still have to go to a dealership to fix it. I don't want to go to a dealership. Any suggestions?

Have you tried changing the battery in it? Main wear issues in most remotes of any type, battery or the button wearing out.

This. They flip out to let you know they're low.
