under-seat subwoofer, version 2.0
Yeah, they were on scionpix and their site went kaput. I need to look for those old files on my old hard drive (from a dead laptop).
Does anybody out there have my original pictures saved? If so can you please PM me? I'm most interested in the picture of the box with the dimensions on it. Thanks.

Speakers are Polk db6501 up front and db651 in the rear. They are powered off the head unit and actually sound pretty good. They are not crossed over but lose bass naturally where the sub takes over. It's a little unorthodox but it sounds good - better than one of those Bose systems that are considered upgrades in lots of cars.
Check out my profile. My head unit is the SNS. It probably puts out a whopping 15 watts/channel RMS. The sub doesn't make any loud vibrations at all. The vibrations are silent. But it does vibrate the passenger seat a little. I don't think it would bother most normal people. In fact I think it enhances the experience, kind of like those bass shakers that were popular years ago.
hey i've been looking all over the place for the shallow pioneer 8" sub you had as "version 1" but nobody seems to have it in stock anymore.
overall that looks like a great idea! how much of an improvement is "v 2" over the pioneer 8"?

The eD sub can hang with the big boys. It sounds like it could be a 10". It will reproduce all the frequencies you ask it to. Of cousre it's only 1 8" speaker so it won't outperform a 10" in a larger enclosure, but it gets much closer to that 'big box' sound than the Premier sub did. I think it would surprise most people.
Premier = adequate, doesn't like the hip-hop & electronic stuff as much as rock music
eD 9kv.2 = Wow! Bonafide sub-bass in a miniature package. Will reproduce whatever you throw at it within reason.

I would say, the little box really surprises me by the punch that I got from it. As Rock mentions in the begining, the location is perfect for every spot in the car. I tested it in the cargo area before I put it under the seat, the front seats barely got the bass while the rear seats got hammered. I would say this is working out for me pretty good and I think Rock should get a patent and sell it on Ebay! Hahaha. I put the amp under the right rear seat where the RF amp is small enough and fit perfectly (well, I had to make a little platform for it since the tray is not perfectly flat). I would pass on the idea on a on/off switch since it doesn't shake the right front seat too bad, if my wife doesn't like it, I can turn the bass all the way down from my H/U's eq.
Rock, you rock! Thank you for sharing!

After lots of measuring and whatnot I found a design for an under-seat sub that has 0.55 ft^3 of internal airspace, enough for a 10" sub. However you have to use 1/2" MDF to do so. I asked a pro installer friend of mine and he thought with all the small dimensions that 1/2" MDF should be fine. (I didn't even need to cut the vent or anything.)
Here are the pictures of what I have so far, of course the box still needs a top, I was still deciding between 1/2" and 3/4" for the top when I took the picture.
Total Height of the completed Box will be 7", Depth is 18", bottom Width is 15", top Width is 12". I'll upload the exact dimensions later.

I know it looks pretty ugly right now, but I still need to fill everything in and get it covered after which it should look pretty good. The odd angle cutouts aren't necessary, but after it was assembled I ran the box through the table saw to help it drop down in between the floor humps easier.

That looks good whiteymarvin. It really utilizes every bit of space. I thought about 1/2" MDF as well. I think it should be sturdy enough - especially since there are so many corners in the design.
Do you think 7" allows for enough clearance for the woofer's excursion? What sub are you planning to put in there? Keep us posted. Let us know the dimensions too if it all works out.

I am planning on using the Boston Acoustics G210-4

The sub needs 6 3/8" mounting depth which means with the 7" tall box, I only have 6.5" of topmount depth. The sub is designed for a 0.5 ft3 box so it's enough airspace.
As far as excursion, the very rear of the seat drops down, so if the seat is all the way forward, I do think it will be too tight, however, with the seat in the normal position or all the way back, there is more space for movement. Oh and I also cut out the seat sensor bracket and mounted the seat sensor above the seat strut or whatever you would call that thing. (I've got some good pictures I need to upload when I get home.)
Also, I plan on covering the box in paint on truck bedliner or something similar since carpeting all those corners would be really tough to make attractive.
Thanks again RocktheBeef for the original design. I started with yours and tried to start bumping it out as large as I could and not going outside the seat/taking up legroom in the rear seat.

Here's the model I made in Google Sketchup (free) before I started cutting the wood. It was too complicated to just start cutting away.

here's the model...

If anyone wants to download google sketchup and the linked file you can "walk around" the box and play with it to see if you want to use it or modify it. Also you can see all the dimensions. FYI it's all 1/2" MDF except for 3 pieces which are made of 3/4" MDF, either for extra strength or because the extra 1/4" didn't take up airspace or get in the way of the seat.
