Aww man, that's awesome. I've got to check that program out. I've got some 10" Image Dynamics IDQ subs I'd love to use. I'm only a little concerned with the clearance when the seat is forward. I'd like the design to be a little more "idiot proof". But like you said, if it'll only be an issue if the seat is in an abnormally forward position, it might not be too bad. The only time I had to move the seat that far forward was to transport a tree that was like 7 ft. tall. It fit by the way with the hatch closed and the front seat reclined flat!

Oooooh Image Dynamics, sweet. I forgot about them. I've been out of the car stereo game for about 10 years so I am catching back up. I get excited about all the stuff that was hot 10 years ago. I recently saw some new Soundstream amps for a great price on ebay. I was really excited and about to buy them until I found out Soundstream was sold to some other company and now they are mediocre/crap.

Anyway, if the subs aren't too deep, you could make the entire enclosure 1/2" shorter and have 0.5 ft3 instead of 0.55. I don't know how many 10" subs are ok with 0.5 ft3, but the boston g210 and g510 subs need exactly 0.5 ft3, no more no less per Boston Acoustics. (I wanted to do the Boston G510 but it needs 6.75" mounting depth and is really pricey.) Also I know those thin Pioneer subs like you started with will go in real small box. I was originally going to make the box out of 3/4" material and get the 10" flat pioneer.

Either way I am probably getting ahead of myself as the box isn't even finished yet, and the sub, amp and wiring are still in the mail. Give me another week or week and a half to finish everything since I'm going to the Gorge to see the Dave Matthews Band this weekend. But I'll get more pics up when everything is finished, and report on how it sounds!

Here's the completed box. Instead of carpeting, I used roll on bed liner "herculiner" I just didn't see any way I could carpet all those corners and make it look good. Plus I think the herculiner may seal/stiffen the box a bit.

And here is the box under the seat with the seat all the way forward, you can see there is plenty of space for the sub's excursion, also although it may appear so, the seat's movement is totally unimpeded by the sub box. The handle for moving the seat doesn't rub against the box.

With the seat all the way forward, the back of the seat is nearly touching the subwoofer. This is not normally a problem because with the seat in the normal position, the sub has plenty of room to move since only the back of the seat drops down.

And with the seat in the normal position everything is hidden unless you are looking from a pretty low angle.

Oh and by the way, the sub sounds great! The sub is a Boston G210-44 being fed by an Eclipse Amp XA1000 which puts out 480 watts at 2 ohms. So, even though this is just an under seat sub. The car sounds pretty damn good if I may say so myself.

Let me know if you have any questions!

That looks fantastic. It makes me really consider doing a rebuild of my original design. I wish I could hear it man. Good work.

Thanks! I've got another thread with some more details.

As far as sound, well it sounds like a good sealed 10. Not a 10w7, but a good 10. Everything was a tight fit as you've already found out. The sub only has 1/8" of space behind the vented magnet, and it's a little tight scooting the box under the seat with the seat all the way forward. As far as the flex of the 1/2" MDF, well I can feel it vibrate, but I don't know if that is the whole box vibrating or the panel flexing and whether or not that is coloring the sound.
I wish I could hear your box and sub and compare also. My only reference is when I was in HS I had a single cab ranger with an original kicker solobaric 8" which pounded for an 8. I upgraded to a decent 12 and while it didn't get that much louder, it did go a lot lower.
I suppose the best I can do is have other people listen and they can report their impressions.

Need some help here. Do you worry about the amp being right next to the heat vent. Is there a way to disable the vent in the back seats. I will be doing an 8" shallow install under the passenger seat and was considering mounting the amp under the drivers seat. Also I will likely be amplifying my speakers. I thought I might be able to place two kenwood amps under the rear seat. Any thoughts on this, has anyone done this?.... sorry if these questions have already been answered somewhere on this forum, I did a search but didn't see anything.
