Is it worth getting Synthetic Oil?

Is it worth getting Synthetic Oil?
Hi,
The last two changes I've used Mobile 1 Synthetic 0w-20:
While it comes with 6 quarts, I used 5 quarts per change, so the cost of the parts comes to:
$51.08 * (5/6) = $42.56
Plus, add a filter for about $6 = $48.56.
(I don't pay for labor since a friend of mine has a body shop).
I've been told I can drive 10,000 miles with this. So in dollars per mile, that is:
$48.56 / 10,000 = 0.00486
BUT I can go to my local car wash and they'll replace my oil for $20 plus throw in a free filter (and wash). I'll assume that I can drive 5,000 miles on their oil:
$20 / 5,000 = 0.004
It seems very close but I at least get some more convenience with the premium oil such that I can drive further with it.
If you see something wrong with this, let me know; also, is it OK to switch to non-synthetic?

Mobil 1 full synth costs me $26.89 (incl. tax) for 5 quarts at Walmart, and I bought my Toyota YZZF1 filters off eBay for 10 @ $38.50 with free shipping. That's $30.74 total if you get free labor. I'd go this route instead of paying $20 for dino oil & a cheap filter, or your current higher price for synthetic.

Thanks for that. I just changed my oil so I'll keep in mind for next time.

$20 for an oil change and car wash is scary cheap. I'd run away from that "deal". Dino oil is adequate but synthetic is better in every way other than initial cost. Walmart M1 and Toyota filters are my preference.

You should buy it when its on sale at Autozone. 5 quarts mobil 1 + mobil 1 filter for $30, they usually do it every couple of months.
I buy the Mobil 1 extended performance deal for a couple dollars more, its well worth and it easily can go to 10k miles which Ive started doing.

Also keep in mind when switching from regular non synthetic you will get slightly higher MPG as well as your engine will hold up longer. For me that makes the slightly more cost COMPLETELY worth it.
