I ask because I've heard "silver, black or white" from other members on this forum and another one. Grey would be awesome actually :D

my three options right now:
1) buy a 2013 xb (when i finally have one at a dealership close to me (or place an order with my dealer for one)) and dont look back. i dont want to place an order because, back in 05, i did that and it took the dealer 3 months to get me a car...
2) buy a 2013 RS 10 this summer
3) hold off until we see what a 2014 xb-successor will look like. if this is nice, i will lease a 2012 xb in the interim ($179/mo. seems awfully attractive) as opposed to the 2013 since they're pretty much the same car and pickup a new xb after the lease on the 2012 ends :D ....
shadez - thanks for the info re: leasing. im def considering that as an option.
wow very cool :D i hope it's a darker grey / gun metal grey... my last car was gun metal grey and i liked that color a lot. i wonder if it'll be like the cement gray from the tc...

Another thing about the lease is i've had mine 2 years in june and right now I owe 13,500. People always think they have to give the lease back to the bank..., but not true. Anytime during a lease you may buy, sell, or trade you car just as you would when you purchase. Take these examples
1. Purchase the Car $17500 + Tax(1600)+Fees= 367.00 for 60months down. If I had done this I would still just be paying interest to the bank and would owe around 17k at this time and the car would only be worth 13500 to 14k at this point. upside down 3000.
2. Lease the Car 17500 / 58-60% Residual = $7000 / 36 months =$194 + Monthly lease tax of 30.00. I went to the dealer this week and trade on mine was sitting at 13,500 or 14k...so I'm about 500 to a 1000 to the good already. Or I could always sell it private party and theyre bring around 16k ish right now. Either way after a short period in my lease I have many options. Also if you love the car after 3 years just purchase it then....Any lease vehicle comes with the end lease buyout gurantee....Mine was 9k. They will guarantee this price at the time of leasing. So after 36 months you can purchase the car for this amount no matter market change. At that time you may book out you car and see what its worth....if for some reason its worth more at the time like say 11500, it would be worth it to purchase cause your buying the car for 2500 back of ACV Actual Current Value, or you could sell it and make the profit or trade it in and make just a little. Lets say the car tanks in value over the next few years...and its only worth 6500 at the time. This is the only time it would be good to give back to the bank and let them take the loss, but they will then make sure you were withing the 36,000 miles...anything over they could charge you about .15 per mile plus any damage to the car. Toyota has held their values very good over the years and the Scion XB is one of the top 3 resale values over any brand or model. You should be fine!!!
The point is...Its far cheaper to lease and have many options during and at the end of a lease. I've leased many toyota cars and have never been upside down.

Or just buy the car with cash, saves you from paying 2 or 3K interest. Or finance the car with a decent down payment and pay it off early. Buying a new car for approx 20 grand is orders of magnitude easier than buying a house(at least now, thank god). A lot of people say it's a ripoff to buy a brand new car vs. used but if it's a Toyota with a good resale value I don't think it's all that bad a decision. If you buy a new car for 20K and then 4 or 5 years later get 15K for it that doesn't qualify as a ripoff in my book.

my plan for my next car (whichever xb it turns out to be) is to keep it until the wheels fall off. i loved my xb1 and made a huge mistake of trading it in for another car and regret that immensely. i plan to keep this thing until 100k miles which for me might take like 15 years to do haha

man, this car is beautiful in red!

also, at the following link, you can see how dull the LED lights are. keep in mind that this is indoors so they may seem brighter... no wonder scion still offers the fog lights as an option on the 2013 model.

Our 2013 GTI has the LED's and factory HID's and they are BRIGHT!! I wish Scion had done something like that.

totally agreed! which is why i'm waiting to see what the 2014 models will look like. after taxes, a base 2013 auotmatic xb is pushing $21k. I recall paying $17,300 after taxes for my 2006 xb, brand new, and it got close to 40mpg! the reason why im sticking to scion: reliability and the car is really, really comfortable and my family agrees. we almost purchased a hyundai santa fe because it was cavernous inside but said why spend $30k when we get similar internal space in the xb. and that's why im back.
hahahaha - yeah, if it was kinda/sorta red, i would not have been interested!
welcome aboard! glad you're enjoying your new ride. what are your favorite features so far?

So inflation over 7 years (2006-2013) was a whole whopping $1,200? Not to mention the 2nd gen's have more power, and cruise control. Cruise control is worth it by itself IMO.
sorry, i didn't mean base as in base price. i meant a base automatic xb (without options) but after taxes. $18,505 + 8.75% tax + $300 doc fees (lowest i've found in the area, surprisingly) = $20,424. i guess that's lower than $21k but thats with zero options, not even floormats. i am thinking of getting the base xb + floor mats + sway/strut bars. the price in the end would be well over $21k...
as for power, i felt the gen1 had enough for me. i would sacrifice power any day for getting nearly 40mpg daily. in my gen 1 xb, i was getting north of 30mpg in the city, and got close to 40 on some long trips to maine. not a single time in the 4 years i owned it did i feel that it was underpowered. sure, it was slower when i had 4 other people in it, but still got the job done, and was the most reliable car i've ever owned. can't say that about cars i paid 4x the price for previously... but i definitely agree that cruise control was necessary!

Yeah, depends on where you live on how much the sales tax will cost you. I'm moving to Vegas next month and I think the sales tax is something like 8.1% and you have to pay it to the dealer lol. If you buy a used car there's no sales tax and just a small registration fee(I think).
Eventually I'll have to get rid of my 06 xB and upgrade to what I don't know yet. Honestly, I feel spoiled with my current xB, it's the best car I've ever owned and the only other car that interests me is the Toyota Camry XLE Hybrid. Maybe the 2014 replacement for the xB will be something to get excited about, I just think Scion is going to further steer towards sportier cars like the FRS than anything boxy like the xB.

My 2013 auto has fog lights, spoiler, floor mats, c pillar storage, rear bumper applique. I got out the door for 20,087 I believe it was. Sticker was 19,650. I didnt want one with all of those options due to the price, but it was the right color, and they did way good on my trade so I couldnt pass it up.
My 04 xB only averaged like 27-29 mpg! Thats why I thought the new one was no big deal because I am already getting that in it. Thats crazy you guys are getting such high numbers.
I know, I get anywhere from 26-32 MPG in my 06 but I'm here in Hawaii and there's not much highway lol. Most of the folks I know that get better mileage have the manual version.
