AutoLock - Not working
Has anyone else tried to set the autolock feature? I've tried a couple times now and according to the manual, it's giving me a positive signal that it worked, but then it doesn't autolock.
I want the car to lock the doors when I shift out of park. In the book it gives the instructions.
1. With the car in PARK, turn the ignition to the ON position.
2. Within 10 seconds, press and hold the driver side powerlock button in the lock position.
3. Hold for 5 seconds.
4. When the powerlock button is released the doors will lock and unlock to acknowledge your selection.
To deselect, repeat the instructions above.
Has anyone else had this work successfully?

I remember programming it for a 4Runner after I disconnected the battery. It lost it's memory. So I had to reprogram it and you have to follow those instructions verbatim. It took me several times to get it right and I'm used to programming alarms.
Yeah, that's what I thought, it's the same thing with my GTO, I have the 6sp and the feature its autos only. Whats weird is that the 1992 sunbird I had when I was in college was a manual trans, and it locked the doors when the car went over 8mph so I dont think this was a dificult feature for Toyota to program into the Xb ECU
Quick Update: I took it to the shop yesterday. See my post about "Bleed edge - Wheels and Alarm" for that little story! But I also had them look at the auto-lock thing.
I hope it was a mistake, but they set it to Unlock when I shift into park, but not do anything when I shift out of park. Grrrr...
I took it back today. The bonus for them screwing it up is that it seems you get the choice of what it does in both lock and unlock. In other words, you get three possible settings for lock AND three possible separate settings for unlock.
I'm thinking I want it to lock when I come out of park, but not unlock at all. Since the door will unlock when you pull the handle, why bother with unlock at all? Safer to leave it locked I think, so it's my choice when the car gets unlocked.
Anyway - I'll post if they fix it to let you know that it's fixable. I'll also ask tonight to see if there was a reason I wasn't able to do it myself.

Well - I finally got this fixed. It turned out that a computer inside the car was blown when they put in the alarm. They fixed the computer, just to find out that another part needed replacement - some electrical panel that could only be gotten from Japan. They put that in and finally - everything works right.
I was able to set my locks just the way I want them. The only problem is, if I want to get into my trunk I have to unlock it first. So I'm going to "shift out of park - LOCK, shift into park - UNLOCK".
Settings are just as they say in the book - but sometimes it takes two or three shots at it for it to take - even if you do it exactly the way they say.
Auto-lock when shifting from park.
1. Have the car in park
2. Turn the key to on.
3. Within 10 seconds, press and hold drivers side lock switch.
4. Hold for 5 seconds. Let go.
5. Doors will lock and unlock to indicate you've completed successfully.
Same procedure for auto-unlock when shifting out of park EXCEPT you press and hold unlock.

Hi,
I've tried this again and again on an automatic 2008 xb, I can't get it to work. Whenever I let go after holding the lock for 5 seconds, it does nothing and the setting does not change. Any other tips?
Thanks,
Alan

Three suggestions:
1) Make sure the parking brake is applied.
2) Make sure you have turned the key to "ON", and not just "ACC".
3) If it still doesn't work; take it to the service dept., and have a technician do it in front of you. If he can't do it, you have a warranty repair issue.

Hi,
I finally got it to do something last night. There were two settings I wanted to flip from the factory setting. #1 I don't want the doors unlocking when going back to park. #2 I want them to lock at 12-15mph automatically. It was already set to lock them when leaving park and also it does not unlock all doors when you open the driver side door so I didn't need to change these two.
The key to doing this seems to be hitting the "unlock" from the electronic key fob first. I was able to flip the "unlock when going into park" option by 1) using the key fob to unlock, 2) open and close driver door, 3) put in key turn to on, and 4) hold unlock for 5 seconds, and let go.
I then tried to flip the feature where it locks at 15mph, which for my car being an automatic asks that you put the auto trans in neutral first. I tried a couple times and couldn't get it to work until I put the transmission in neutral BEFORE turning the key to on. So I turned the key on, put it in neutral, turned the key towards off (it wouldn't go past ACC) and then followed my instructions above except I held lock instead of unlock for 5 seconds.
I will say this, it seems really picky about the transmission being set to the correct place before you turn the key to on and also picky about the keyless entry system being waked up or something by you pressing unlock on the fob first.
Good luck,
Alan
