Bank1 sensor1...anyone have this problem??? only 14422 miles
If anyone could lend some help on which sensor this is and if it would be covered due to the low mileage that would be great! I know sensors usually aren't covered, but i didn't even hit 15k. (Bank1 sensor1 stuck on lean) even thought i have after market parts i don't feel responsible for the failure of the sensor if that be the case...any help would be greatly appreciated
that sounds like the code for the primary o2 sensor in the exhaust manifold that reads your a/f ratio and feeds it back to the ecu so it can make corrections.
it SHOULD be covered under warranty by your 3/36k bumper to bumper if not also your powertrain warranty.
ofcourse, if you've done something like put on an aftermarket header, that means that the sensor had to be taken off the stock exhaust manifold and put ont the new header, which could have damaged it. and looking at your signature, which lists a strup header, that sounds like exactly what happened. you may have damaged it changing your header,
you could try resetting your ecu by disconnecting the battery and see if it comes back, and if it does, you can buy a new sensor from trdsparks for somewhere around 100-200 dollars.

Well it's not the cel that's on it's the maint light...i have the cel eliminator which works great but the header has been on for 3 months so for the main o2 sensor to go is just silly if u ask me. i take great care of my xb and i was super careful with all the parts i've installed! i was thinking of putting the stock manifold back on cuz i don't feel like ____in away 100+ on a part that should not fail under 15k, but that's just my take. I really just wanted to make sure it was the main 02 sensor. thanks for the feedback and knowledge all is appreciated
Switch back to the stock header and let toyota cover the bill. They are such a large company the stock holders will never feal the pain.
Modified vehicles are what scion advertises. For them to claim modifying your vehicle voids the waranty is insane. That is like saying a product is warantied so long as you never use the product.

i read a story about how a guy blew the turbo on his brand new completely stock mitsubishi evo while autocrossing, and was shocked that he couldn't get it replaced under warranty. was it manufacuring defect that blew his turbo or driver abuse taking it to autocross? which sounds more probable? does it sound fair? a mitsubishi evo is a rally racing machine that does well at autocross, it was built for speed and handling, but when you use it, and it breaks, are you covered?
If they build something to perform and it fails while performing i think that falls under manufacter defect...
And to act like Toyota is a innocent company when they screw many of us is pretty insane...
IF it was me i would put the stock parts back on and take it in and IF it happened again then its ur fault...

2. i learned all about how the warranty works when p-tuning f-ed up my trd lsd installation, and my powertrain warranty wouldn't cover it because while the lsd was brand new, it wasn't the source of the problem, faulty labor on behalf of p-tuning was to blame, so i had to spend 1900 dollars for a transmission overhaul. i've been there done that.
when that happened did i go to my dealership and lie about what i have had done to the car, and try to cover up what i have had done, nope, i was open with them and said what parts were used, and where it was done. if possible, i'd appreciate it to be covered under warranty, but they couldn't find a factory component at fault, they could only find evidence of poor workmanship, which is good because in the end, i was able to use it to dispute the charge on my credit card and deny payment to p-tuning so they didn't get paid for that botched installation.
I appreciate all the feedback and discussion, but to further my point...isn't the scion brand built off of customization??? I mean if one of those autos in the new commercial were to fail don't you think they would take care of them. i didn't buy my xb 2 stay stock nor do most owners. I also realize they have trd parts and with installation are covered, but who wants to pay those prices? haha me, i do have some of those parts myself only because when i purchased mine i couldn't wait 2 start modding. Back 2 the real world though drax u make it sound like toyota will go under if i switch out my manifold, lets be realistic in this economy there doin just fine...

if you want a scion, they'll sell one to you, if you want to customize it, they will sell you parts and installation that will be covered in the event of a problem or failure, with the exception of some of the cold air intake. why do they charge so much? well, you get OEM quality, and warrantied repairs. how many aftermarket companies will do that? usually they just cover their own part, and if it damaged anything else, that is all on you.
will toyota go under? no, but people like you who mess up their car and fail to take responsibility for their actions, and try to get toyota to cover it, make it harder for people who do have legitimate warranty claims to get their work done. be honest and just pay the price for a new O2 sensor. welcome to the world of car customizing, if you F-up, you gotta pay to fix it.
if stuff like this keeps happening, who knows what lengths toyota will go to to prevent warranty fraud by scion owners.
Do you work for toyota or something??? I Put my header on 4 months ago, If i damaged the o2 sensor in my belligerent attempt to pry my o2 sensor out of my manifold (as you so think) don't you think it should of failed a little sooner! I mean of course my he-haw, back country @s$ is clearly inferior to your automotive skill and expertise!!! I clearly apologize for stirring the dragon that sleeps in the toyota/scion cave a.k.a. your @s$ apparently!!! But that's just people like me, hopefully toyota doesn't come knockin on my door after this...crazy thing is the guy that sold me my scion explained how his buddy blew 3 motors on a tc and when he roles up with the roll-back and has all those factory parts on they replaced 3, yes 3 whole motors!!! I think i'll take my chances against the automotive giant and sling my rock their way...i'll make sure they replace it ;-)
