Just because I am currently not doing this retrofit right now, doesn't mean it's not possible. Trust me, this should be pretty very doable. The hardest part would probably be running new wiring to the back of the car. If you have an audio system installed, you could probably tap off those power wires and run a relay/harness similar to what HID kits use.
you dont even see that u keep saying the same thing "master " not everyone here is a so called "retrofiter" and if u can get those parts for that cheap, then u would already b sellingthem on here making a killing, wat ur trying to piece together sounds like a hot mess, and trust me, a retrofit is not as easy as u make it seem, and u are definitely exaggerating on the "cheapness" of ur idea...... its cheap alright

Listen man, I was out of line if I rubbed you the wrong way. I feel really childish going back and forth with you, and I admit, I am partly to blame for that. That being said, I was just trying to contribute to this thread. We both have these fun cars and are both interested in a better backup solution, so let's just move on and not waste anymore bandwidth. Take it easy chicotunner07...

The brightest LEDS I've seen are from SuperBrightLeds.com. I've got 5 watt Luxeons on the motorcycle and they're brighter than filament bulbs for blinkers and brake/tail.

Their brightest 7440 replacements are here: http://www.superbrightleds.com/specs/744x-xHP3.htm for $13.

I'm just hoping that scion realized how stupid it is just to put one back up light and that it really needs the second one before i get my 2nd gen next year.if they don't do it i'm going to mold it and add it up my self.

No solution yet for the crappy existing fixture.
Nobody has tried the $50 bulb from Sigma yet.
Nobody has rewired to try a different high wattage halogen fixture (if it's even legal).
Best current solution is Rumion tail lights and wire up their reverse lights; but that solution is $275 plus shipping.

DJ FroZone, I know this is a huge thread, but that is because many of us have been looking and trying different bulb solutions for quite a while. If you want ALL the info and background on the many attempts, please take the 30 minutes to read the whole thing.

I can boil it down to this if you don't want to...

The only replacement bulb that will fit the stock T-20 wedge receptacle for a 7440 bulb that has not been tried is this:

http://www.sigmaautomotive.com/lighting/catz.php

It's $47-$53 dollars, plus shipping, and is special order only. According to the ad, it's 39% brighter than the stock incandescent bulb (640 lumens instead of 460 lumens). It's the only bulb that I have seen list a lumen output, and it sounds good, but none of us has been willing to take a chance on a $50 bulb yet (plus who knows how much for shipping?) Are you up for it?

What I plan on putting is a low profile 38 watt halogen aux driving light fixture under my bumper with seperaate power & a relay, but I have to wait for temps over 60 degrees for the silicone sealant to set up & work correctly.. mabey after March or Early April.... bummmmer.. jh

You might be able to get away with that in St. Louis, but that's just another reason to give THE MAN to pull you over here in California.

I do want to see it when it's done!

No front license plate - illegal
Tint on front side windows - illegal
Aftermarket HID's - illegal
Tint on tail light lenses - illegal
Tint on headlight lenses - illegal
Rear mounted driving or fog lights - illegal

Yeah, it sucks; but that's the price we have to pay for living in such a bucolic state where there is no drugs, violence, murder, or crime of any sort, so the police have nothing better to do than mess with people who have found a creative non-threatening outlet of expression other than drugs, violence, murder or crime.

I ordered one 7 days ago. $67 dollars shipped and they ship from my own state. It better be good.
