Default Burning smell from under the hood

My wife's Xb now has almost 1,000 miles on it. It is only about a month old and ever since after a week of owning it, there has been a burning smell. It happens after it is fully warmed up. If the A/C is on vent then you can smell it inside. Otherwise the smell is strongest dead center of the engine bay right at the edge of the radiator (on the engine side of the radiator). It smells like rubber burning. It's not a REALLY strong smell but it is noticeable after my wife gets home from work(22 miles one way).

I'm a mechanic and I've owned 5 new cars since 2002, but none of them have ever smelled like this before. Anyone have any idea as to what this is? My wife is gonna take it in on Saturday, but I expect them to say that it's just a new car smell.

I first told my wife the EXACT same thing!!!

I've checked and there's no bags. This doesn't smell like a plastic bag burning but more like a rubber hose or a belt burning.

Default Burning Smell

The smell could actually be the coating that they put on the exhaust and engine parts, etc. so that they won't corrode when the car is shipped from Japan.

The dealership I got my 2nd gen from told me that I'd smell something like that for a bit, but that it would go away on its own.

I do smell it here and there, and my car is about 3 weeks old.

Check with your dealership to be sure, but that's probably what it is.

It would have been nice if the dealership would have told us that!! I bet you're right on this. My wife is still gonna take it to the dealership just to be sure.

Just curious, did it smell electrical??? If so, I had the same thing for the first 1500 miles... I would get out of the car, and smell something that smelled like electrical burning... It went away, so I kinda forgot about it, but seeing this post made me think of it again...
