Buying first car: 2008 xb2 with 101k miles, wise buy?
Hi everyone! I've been very excited about possibly becoming a xb owner in the near future, but before I pull the trigger I just wanted to poll those more experienced and knowledgeable than me on the subject. Namely if it is a good idea to invest in an xb2 that is already at 101k miles. Are there any common repairs or reliability issues that emerge at this level? How much more life can I expect out of the xb? I should definitely invest in a warranty at this stage right?
If it makes any difference, carmax is the vendor here
I'd also love to hear how this car fares as a new driver's first car. Thanks for any input

The only one service-related issue I can think of is that several people on this forum have said their cars burn oil at higher miles and the dealers are not really taking ownership of it....
That being said, other people here have 200k+ miles on the car without issue so it's hit or miss, it appears. It would be wise to get an extended warranty from a nearby Toyota dealer to be on the safe side.
Questions I have:
1) what is the asking price?
2) does the owner have service (specifically, oil change) history/records/reciepts...?

Thanks for the responses! Interesting note about the oil. This is what the car fax shows:
09/10/2012 61,884 Oil and filter changed
11/17/2012 67,696 Oil and filter changed
03/02/2013 76,016 Oil and filter changed
04/20/2013 81,256 Oil and filter changed
07/08/2013 86,625 Oil and filter changed
09/13/2013 90,485 Oil and filter changed
01/17/2014 96,241 Oil and filter changed
Is this a normal pattern or should I be worried? Also the asking price is actually $11k
I do understand Carmax is a bit of a premium vendor, just for the ease and peace of mind of a functioning vehicle. I don't have the means, time, or knowledge to go around haggling for the best price, paying a few hundred over the KBB price isn't a deal breaker for me. But you guys have me second guessing haha.

Dude 11k? Carmax always wants top dollar with no negotiations.
And there is no peace of mind there. I've heard several stories about people buying broke junk from carmax.
Steer clear!
As far as 11k that's way to high. My end of lease price of my 14 xb is gonna be 10k. The car will only have 40k miles.

In the event the xb is a lemon, CM does offer a 30-day warranty to repair any deficiencies that might pop up. But are xb2's known to be that risky beyond 100k? Thanks again for any input.

You should easily be able to find an xB with lower miles for that price. I love my xb and havent really had any issues with it thusfar. I would do what the others said and look around elsewhere and see whats available, if there is nothing else then maybe go for carmax. Also remember when a car is being sold that $11k is the ASKING price, not the sold price. My wifes Kia they were asking $31k+ for and we went out the door, tax licensing and all for about $27 and some change.
If you are going to go with that one, find some comparables for xB's on craigslist, autotrader and other dealers.
My only concern with that maintenance is it looks like at one point the car went about 9k without an oil change. Makes you wonder if any other parts of the car have been neglected. I would check into the condition of brakes, trans fluid, tires, etc as well since they are asking such a high price.
For example some near me http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sea...%20xb&sort=rel and that is the LA market where cars tend to be valued a little higher than other places. There is a lot of cars out there on the road, never settle unless you are getting a killer deal.

dude i bought a 2014 for no money down for 16,900. if you can do 11k from carmax, you can do that for a new one. also that includes oil changes, and maintenance for the first 3 years/36k.
if thats going to break you, walk into any toyota dealer and get a used one off their lot for way less.

assuming the following:
$18,600 MSRP
$11,000 Down payment
~10% sales tax (only put this because in md you have sales tax and tire tax, 6% and 5% respectively)
1.95 APR on 60 months
you're looking at a monthly payment of around 168 a month.
And the new car smell is a plus.
It's your call.
