Car shows, so unfair for XB2's
Just a general rant, been to four shows now, from Scion sponsored to dealer sponsored not many XB2's but they need to have a seperate class for XB's and XB2's, just not fair to compete with Gen 1's when our is so new and mods are still limited.
All the shows I've been to have formed a new class for the XD and they don't have but one maybe two show up so why not a class for the XB2!! Just ____es me off, they are two different cars they need different classes. Do you see a 69 Camaro in the same class as 90's Camaro...no! Ok, thank you, I am done!

The last 2 shows i have been to did have a gen1 and gen2 classes.
I am sure everyone will all come around soon.

i went to a car show in the import class, only 6 showed up for that class, i thaught i was sure to get 3rd (real nice classic VW bug and a real nice older Jag was sure to take 1st & 2nd) a 4g eclips with no mods, a dirty engine bay, and a temp tag to 3rd.
how the hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Frank's Green XB is bad ___, he had the sweetest XB1, usually does at most shows, but the shows really need two classes for Xb's
I know how you feel and I dont have a 2nd gen. I disagree with making a separate class for the 2nd gen. What about the rest of the Scion owners that don't have the kind of money it takes for mods? It's even worse than not having anything to bolt on. I just think they should separate the classes like mild -> custom, that way you'd still have a chance at winning, unlike me because I'm pretty stuck as to what else I can do right now because of school. So I just hope they have different classes like that which will give the underdogs a chance and wont Judge the xB1 and xB2 on who has the nicest one, but who has the nicest one of their class.
i don't see the need to separate the xB1 & xB2.
ive seen some super hot xB2s that have no problem putting any xB1 to shame.
i think alot of thease car shows only care about old classics
and lets us along for the ride. scion is still a new enough compainy that alot of people still don't even know about it.
like 3 months ago i had a guy ask me if my car was production and if it was electric, he also called it a SKEEON.
the other problem is alot of people just consider our cars as UGLY, and can't see past that to give us an honest run.
you know like how could the 4G eclips with no mods, a dirty engine bay, and a temp tag beat me.
I also kind of agree with separating the big dogs from the under dogs. with my xB1 i don't have too meny finding parts problems but i do have alot of $ problems. i don't sidestep my needs in life but i do spend almost every extra penny on it and its never enough to stand toe to toe with with some of thease other guys. i just don't have thousends of $ hanging out of my but to do very meny big time mods.
the only area im willing to cut corners is i do "all" my own work.

Speaking as the host of a Scion show I must say that this is one very tough question that we are facing. More classes mean more expense to the show and when you're trying to do a show without an entry fee that makes it difficult to pull off. However, you do want everyone to have a fair shot at a trophy. It can be difficult.
Add to that the fact that most judges this past season don't really know what is stock and what is not with the xB2. When there aren't several to compare at a show you can have a really clean mod that can easily be mistaken for stock. Steve's xB2 got passed over at several non-Scion only shows because his massive sunroof, leather, nav, and suede work look good enough to be stock.
This year I think we will have a xB2 category for the All Scion Show 5.0 but I do not know if I will have a mild and wild separation there.
Finally, darn you guys for being able to have a car show in December! All of Iowa is encased in ice (not I.C.E.) and it sucks.

I can understand the expense and everything but why not make two classes for XB1/XB2 and just combine the XA/XD into one class since that is the smallest class at every show that I have been to this summer. (Usually one of each, pretty easy for those guys).
As for the weather, it was decent during the day mid 50's or so, but at night it was freaking cold!

I dont mind competing with the Gen 1's at all. It is actually good. I do agree that is hard to compete with them cause of the access to the parts. That is where is great to be able to compete on there level with limited parts and beat some of them. I just really sit there and look at mine and figure out stuff I can either make or make what is there look better. That is the best part of it.
I went to one just a couple of weekends ago. xB1 and TC as far as the eye can see. 3 xA NO xD and my xB2 was the only one there. 75% of the cars were part of the same club so naturally all of the people's choice awards went to people in that club with no hope for anyone else winning anything. I really did not go to win anything but thought it was a bit lame. That, and 3 VERY custom xB1 took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. No one could compete with these guys.
I personally don't care if I win anything, I go to meet people and see nice cars. The thing I hated at this show was that all of the club members were in one big click and were to engulfed in how great their own cars were that they would not give the time of day. Between those 2 things, it made me not want to go to any more regional Scion sponsored events if that is what they are all going to be like.

The combined xA/xD class may be exactly what we do for next year's show. We have generally had 4 or 5 xAs show up for the show the last 4 times and I think that is about what we will expect with combined xA and xD this year. That's part of why an accurate online sign-up is really important. It helps a host plan both categories and food/provisions/giveaways.
As for the "popular vote" shows, hell, I'll just say it, IT'S A COP OUT! It really is the easy way out for a show promoter. Judges take far more work because you have to hire/bribe them to do the job in the first place, invent a fair criteria, ensure the judges understand the criteria, AND make sure they judge the vehicles consistantly. THEN you have to tabulate all of the scores at the end of the show BEFORE everybody that has been hanging around all day RIOTS! With a vote show you simply count the votes and award the trophies.
I feel that doing a popular vote show is not productive. It turns a show into a popularity contest of who has the most friends in attendance. That's just not right. I'm NOT opposed to a "People's Choice" award though. That type of award is very useful for a car community to recognize somebody who may not have the best car at the show, but perhaps is extremely important to the community itself. I can get behind an award like that.
So, I made a decision at the end of this past summer. Myself and my cult (the SPITE Cult, basically some specific friends of mine) are not entering any popular vote shows in the coming season. We will go and exhibit to show support for the promoters (because even if they are misguided they are generally good people and deserve support) but will not be entering the show. I think it is a good way to send a message about this type of show and I hope they get it. If you like the idea please adopt it as your own.
Okay, sorry for prattling on. I get on a roll, you know?
Summary: You'll probably see xA and xD classes combined in the Midwest this year, also, I'm not down for popular vote shows (support to tylers65). Finally, I just found out I'll be at a show in Kansas City in March...dang that will be cold.

There is no need to seperate the xA from the xD nor the xB Gen1 and Gen 2's. As more of these vehicles enter the show scene promoters should responsibly alter the classes to mild / wild or even stock / mild / wild of enough show up.
Bottom line is whoever invests the most time and money into his or her ride usually wins, thats the way car shows work. A stock / semi stock vehicle should never win at a car show.
Stock cars deserve awards for cleanliness, otherwise their main purpose is to support the club they roll with and enjoy the events they attend until they become more competitive. Of course if you go to shows just to hang out or meet new people, this whole topic is mute.
