Cargo Cover Installed! - Pics Inside!
Got my Cargo Cover last week. It's much better then the 1st gen Cargo cover which was just a flimsy cover that stayed in place. I personally like the roll up style better (like in the Prius,) but this is still better then the 1st gen one. Finally got around to installing it... Install took about an hour? If you are thinking about getting one, be very sure you want it. You will have to drill your panels in order to install the side brackets. If you decide you don't want it, you'll be left with 2 x 40mm holes and one small hole on each side. Pics shown below...
1. Parts that come in the kit.

2. Kit installed. The Cover opens up when you open the rear door.

3. What it looks like when the door is closed.

4. As you can see, the hinge doesn't go all the way back. So, part of the cover is not rigid and attaches to the rear headrest. The loose part is split 60/40 as well, so you can put one side down without having to remove the cover.

5. Better view of the side profile. You can see it's about flush where the 2 rear quarter panels meet (the lighter color and darker color one)

6. Close up of the support piece. You'll drill 2 x 40mm holes and 1 x 6mm hole. The piece actual screws into the metal frame behind the plastic. So, the support piece is not just being held up by the plastic panel.

7. Clips are provided that go into the glass window. There are little notches in the metal where you are supposed to put these clips in. There were a PITA to get in. I recommend using a string to pull it down and at the same time, pressing the back half of the piece into the window. Have fun ;)

And that's it. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll be glad to help as best I can...

Very nice pics and how-to. Looks similar to the stock cargo cover in the tC (especially the way it hooks to the headrests and the loose part so you can recline the seats.)
Any idea why this wasn't included stock on the car? Cost? (Now that I think about it, there are a lot of accessories for the xB that would be stock if it wasn't a "monospec" model and at a higher price point. I can probably do without most of them.)
Also, do you think this is a necessary accessory or does the tint on the back windows keep people from seeing what's stashed in your trunk most of the time?

In addition to hiding stuff from thieves, the biggest advantage of the rear cargo cover is the elimination of reflections in rear window (from stuff stored in the rear).
My cheap, lightweight solution was a big black terrycloth towel from WalMart. Tossed over the "junk in the trunk", it absorbs light like a black hole.
