Common issues: Let me make sure I understand this…
Thanks guys,
Keep the feedback coming please. I want to make sure I understand how big/small, common/not-common, these issues are -- particularly the A-pillar and window stress breakages.
One thing to clarify though: On the windshield, I'm not talking about cracking due to rock chips -- those things happen. I'm concerned about the windshield breaking due to stress.

When I bought my '08 xB the dealership wanted $1495 for the 7yr/100k plan, and said it was non-negotiable like the purchase price of the xB. At 35,500 miles I bought my 6yr/100k Toyota Extra Care (the plan I wanted because I put on so many miles each year) for $750 from Troy at the dealership I referenced earlier in this thread.

x2 in a big way!

I have to agree with the others regarding the windshield cracking. I really do not think this is a design issue with the car. I think the angle is the culprit here.
If windshield cracking due to body flex was a legitimate issue, it would be much more widespread. There would be many more threads on many more sites if this was caused by a design flaw.
The fact that there is debate as to whether the cracking is caused by flying debris damage or body flex actually proves, to some degree, that it isn't caused by body flex.
Just my opinion and my $.02

FWIW I bought my 08 XB in March 2007. I just had my first windshield replacement and it was due to a rock chip and defroster on a very cold day this winter. No stress cracks here after 3 years and 35k miles.
