Default Engine Break-In and Roadtrips

About how many miles it take you think for the engine to be broken-in enough to do a long roadtrip? I'm putting as many miles on the car as I can right now to break it in so I can start doing some roadtrips but I'm not sure. I was thinkin 1,000 miles?

per the owner's manual (page 156 IIRC), the break-in period is 1,000 miles.

i have a 60-mile freeway commute (one way), so the part of the break-in procedure that said not to stay at one speed for a prolonged period worried me. i got around it by NOT using the cruise control, varying my speed (when traffic allowed), and throwing in an occasional downshift for ____s and grins.

i just passed the 1000 mile mark today, so beginning next week i'm going to start using the cruise control on the freeway.

Thanks. I must have missed that when I looked through the manual. I use cruise control every time I'm on the freeway but my freeway time usually only last 3-7 minutes depending on where I'm trying to go.

I roadtripped mine the day after I picked it up i left for the Grand Canyon with 38 miles on the car and then on to vegas. I had 0ver 1,000 by the 5th day I had it. Just dont use the cruise control and vary the speed. I have had no problems at all with the car adn I have over 13,000 mile on it now in less than four months. I hit 115 MPH with just 200 mile on the car. I think you got to break therm in hard
