Hey jon...did the cops check for any connection between the guy who had your rims and the dealer where you had your xB worked on?
Yes, in most places it is illegal to block the VIN if the vehicle is on the street.
This is both good and bad. Good because if the cops find your stolen vehicle with no plates or wrong plates they can actually ID it. Bad in that any petty crook can get the VIN and if their cousin has a friend who has a friend who can get keys made...
A friend used to put a light spray of Krylon fixative (clear, flat) on the inside of the little patch of windshield you could see the VIN through. Looked like that part of the windshield was a little foggy or whatever, blocked the VIN from view, usually didn't upset the cops. Still illegal, though.
Up to you, YMMV.

glad you got your ride back and everything is coming together ok..but even all the stuff that has happened to you so far its not as bad as my friends tC..whos windows got broken 3 times for no apparent reason. Everytime he got them fixed, the next morning someone breaks them with a brick. It cost him over a 1000 to fix the windows over and over again. Plus he doesnt have a garage and he doesnt know whos doing it. Long story short, the cops are to lazy to do anything.
Due to "budget constraints" King County Washington Sheriff's Department will no longer investigate personal property theft, burglary or damage less that $10,000 value. You call, they give you a case number, that's it.

I still opt to cover my VIN. Illegal or not.
I only read up to page 3 but I'm with State Farm as well & I have EVERYTHING on my tC covered and all the underwriters have copies of all my receipts. If you kept your receipt for wheels and tires, they're supposed to cover it.
well, got a call, geting my car back tomorrow or thursday, they are cutting me a check for the rims... sadly im not putting new rims on it, going to use that money to get a new place, dont want to live here any more.... but i'll post some pics of before and after, back bumper is getting painted due to damage at the time of the theft...

i would ask the impound yard if they could just leave it in front of the abandoned house where they found yours with n rims...fair is fair right? Oh and maybe if he is lucky by the time he got processed and released there might part of the suspension left!
