Only problem with making it too hard for them with multiple wheel locks, Firesquare, is if they can't get 'em off, they'll just destroy them - or the car they are on - when they get angry.

Seen that sort of thing happen too many times.

don't all the scions have that bypass that if the key isn't in the car, it can't be started?

Some random vegan thoughts...

1. You have the right idea about changing stuff up, but if someone wants something you have, they're going to get it. Period.

2. What's the deal with people being heavily tattooed?!?!!?!? Being heavily tattooed doesn't necessarily constitute someone as "gangsta". If it does, then I must suck at being a gangsta...

3. If you do have his name, I absolutely would NOT plaster it on the interwebz. It can cause a law suit. It's called slander.

4. I'd really suggest a good, quality alarm. Granted, your car can still be stolen, but it's a decent theft deterent. (I haven't read the entire thread, I'm not sure if you had an alarm in the first place. If you have, I do apologize.)

5. Cover the VIN in your windshield. I've talked with CIONIDE about this, he knows what's up!

Yup, ALWAYS cover your VIN in the windshield.

Don't worry about slander... I'd be more worried about death than slander. (In other words, don't do it.)

And don't listen to vegan about tattoos , they're all bada$$ cop killin' gangsta dudes!

Anyone buying wheels for $100 should know they were stolen.

I don't know if I just missed it in all the posts or not, but how did they know they were your "exact" rims and the person didn't just happen to order the same ones? I'm not doubting it, especially with his story, just wondering.

i just knew they where my rims down to the blue stem covers.... i doubt that two different cars are going to have the same 20 in rims and have the same valve covers... i placed blue oes on mines because i had changed my windshiel wiper blades to blue ones and painted interior parts blue (ugly i know) thats why its not like that anymore..... anyways I also told them that the sensors in the rims where linked to my car. The guy who had the rims said he had them for 2 months, his neighbor said he only had them 2 weeks, so that didnt match up, he said he bought them for $100 so cops didnt believe that, they towed it, took the wheels off and sure enough sensor light goes off when the rims are installed on my car.

Yup. Tire Pressure Monitoring System sensors are all serial numbered, and the receiver in a vehicle recognizes it's own sensors.

Duplicate keys for a car can be made from the VIN number. It's not common, because it takes some collusion between a thief and an employee at a car dealership, but it has been known to happen with some frequency within the auto theft marketplace.

Just a hint to make it that much more difficult for a thief to get your car.

doesn't their have to be documentation with like a registration card and a drivers license to get keys made for a vehicle?

because a customer of mine asked me about something like this and thats what i figured.

anyone work at a dealership confirm this? because this is important!!!!!!1

If a person at a dealership who is in a position to make keys from either VIN or key code number does so without fully checking records or does it "for a friend" or whatever, it is actually fairly simple to give the number and get a key - it all depends on the honesty of the guy at the dealership.

See: http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/...28/detail.html
http://www.wlbt.com/Global/story.asp...0&nav=2CSfa7u2

It's also a favorite way in my area for repo men to snag cars: why bother with a tow truck and all the time, noise, and space needed, and potential for damage to the vehicle, if they can just walk up to a car, get in, and drive away. Dealerships will usually make keys for repo shops with no questions.

So yes, any "connected" thief or con artist could probably pick up a key from a VIN with little difficulty...

In a Perfect World™ it wouldn't be easy for a crook to get a key made for your car. Sadly, in the Real World™ it sometimes is.
