I hope some can help. I have 42k miles on my 08 xB and wanted to know when is a good time to replace the fuel filter and where is it located?

Never.

The sock-filter is located in the fuel tank itself I guess, below the rear seats. This type does not need changing.

But if you still plan to, there is a DIY somewhere. Search it!

 

It's located inside the fuel tank . Damn you already have 42k miles on your xb2? And I thought my 13k was bad .

 

Idk but this autozone ad said to replace it every 12k miles lol. Doubt thats all that true but I would if I used cheap gas. I use Shell only. Id say about every 20k maybe? And if its in the tank that kinda sux...

 

i have 31,000 miles. My last car was a 98 new beetle traded that in on the xb and that had 145,000 miles on it and original fuel filter and never gave a prob...

 

Most sources say 30K. I found one place that said as the fuel filter gets clogged the pump will draw more current. The article said most car's fuel pumps will draw 4-6 amps with a dirty filter and that number can double.

 

If it ain't broke, don't fix it...
